Question for Pokemon Ruby

What does it mean when the girl next to wally's house say your Pokemon likes you alot but it wants to be babied? What do you do when she say that?

It basically means if you want the Pokemon to love you more, keep it in slot 1, always fight with the Pokemon, and feed it pokeblocks.

I think it wants you to use it to battle with because that's what I did before and the thing changed to " It likes you alot, it can't possibly love you more."( or something like that).
