You can still play the game, it just means time based changes will not occur, such as berries growing or the tides in shoal cave will not change.

How to get rare candy
Guest answered:

It is possible to replace the battery by following this tutorial "http://www.overclock.net/nintendo/465536-tutorial-replace-internal-battery-pokemon-ruby.html".
Not having a working battery will stop you from Berry Growth, Accessing all of Shoal Cave, Encountering Regice, and others. It's pretty inconvenient.

I say that you should fix it or throw it out and buy a new game :P

First you take the ruby cover apart, then you will see the "chip" in the top right corner theres a 3v battery(PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART ) carefully pry the battery out of the socket it's in. (CAREFULLY )

When you have done that go to wallgreens, wallmart, family doller ect.

And find a 3v battery (looks like a watch battery)
then put I back togetther
viola!!!

The Feebas tiles stay the same anyway. It only changes if you talk to some person in a place on Dewford Island I think it is. I haven't played Gen III in a while so I forgot what the town was called.

I know this sounds crazy, but it has happened to me too. Unscrew the back of the game, and VERY carefully clean it with a damp cloth. CAREFULLY replace the battery and re-screw the game case back together. Make sure that the metal thingy is firmly pressed against the battery and try to play it. It then should work. If it doesn't, then, well, not sure what's wrong. Maybe it's time to get a new game.
Guest answered:

Replacing the internal battery on gameboy advance games will not affect the game, unless you accidentally damage the inside of the cartridge.

Guest answered:

You have to replace the internal battery I'm sorry but you have to spend money to buy the new battery there's no other way
