Question for Pokemon Ruby

Why can't I tipe 8 digets in my gameshark? I can only tipe 12

8 digits are for old game. New game needs more digits to specify the target to cheat.

8 digits are for Older Game Sharks and also for some Action Replay devices I am pretty sure.

12 digits is for Game Shark. I think they have a 16 digit one for Game Shark and Action Replay as well, you have to watch out cause some codes get mixed up and have Game Shark codes in Action Replay files and Action Replay codes in Game Shark files, just watch for the master code.
