I think before starting the game you have the option of loading or deleting the game.

When you first come to the main screen (the screen where it says Pokemon Leaf Green and shows Venasaur), I think you have to hold down the buttons L, R, Select, Start, A and B. I'm pretty sure that it will then ask you if you want to delete your game.

Up , select , and b . This will take a long time to delete though . It did for me , at least . It wouldn 't let me save over the other file and kept saying save error , replace back up memory , or something like that . I plugged it in after clicking erase and went to bed , then woke up six hours later and it was still deleting . . . So I left the house and when I came back it was finally done .

I did that and it completes in 3 seconds by restarting the game and the save data is still present
