10 Essential Console Games for 2016

7. Doom

Computer gamers in their thirties and over will welcome a reimagining of the classic horror PC title, Doom. While the movie adaptation left us completely dissatisfied in spite of The Rock's use of the “F” word throughout, fans of the brand have deserved a properly executed reboot and Bethesda Softworks is likely one of the best publishers to make this happen, with such impressive titles as the Elder Scrolls franchise, Fallout, and Dishonored to their credit. Like the original, you play an unnamed marine in first person view battling demonic forces from Hell that have been unleashed on Mars. The graphics have been given a proper revamping and the music pays homage to the original with music by successful composer, Mick Gordon who has worked on the music for such recent titles/remakes as Killer Instinct, Need For Speed, and Wolfenstein. According to developers, the game has “badass demons, Big effing guns, and fast paced action” as well, it should. Doom was the first of its kind back in the 90s, and while it is impossible to create that same infamy created with the first one because of the advancement of surrounding titles, the game does stand on its own very well and play is incredibly nostalgic. Definitely worth playing!
