Top 10 Ghosts in Video Games

08. Skyrim -- The Headless Horseman

Chances are you know who the Headless Horseman is - well, actually we should not really jump to that conclusion since he has appeared in many cultures all over the world.

In North America you might know him as a character from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving; in Ireland you might know him as Dulachán ("the dark man") who is a headless fairy, usually depicted riding a black horse and carrying his head. In Germany you might know him as "the wild huntsman" -- a spectral spirit who appears to hunters and blows a horn to warn them not to ride the following day or they might die.

Of course considering how few people read books these days perhaps you know him best from the TV show Sleepy Hollow... Just saying.

In this case however we are talking classic Headless Horseman - a headless ghost riding a spectral horse who appears randomly in certain parts of Skyrim between the hours of 10 PM and 5:30 AM.

If you have the stones to follow him (bearing in mind that the game classifies him as a ghost so you cannot actually you know, hurt him or anything) he will lead you to Hamvir's Rest, though not directly as he seems to like to make stops along the way.

The thing that makes him special - and creepy - is that he is often aware of your presence. Aware in the sense that he may decide to interact with you! Which can be a blessing since when he takes it into his non-head, he can make keeping up with him very difficult.

Rumor has it that whenever a death happens within his not-sight, he will whisper different phrases. We have not actually seen that - or heard it - but there seems to be enough rumors to suggest that there is certainly something to it.

So, to recap: spectral spirit in full armor, riding spectral horse, no head, whispers when things die. Ah, yeah, creepy, creepy, creepy, check, check and check!
