10 Disturbing Easter Eggs in Video Games

02. Batman: Arkham City -- Scarecrow's Boat

Until the arrival of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games the experience of playing a super hero in a video game was always something short of impressive - but when Rocksteady created their take on The Caped Crusader they hit pay dirt big time!

Thanks to a combination of pushing the limits of the tech and embracing the goal of creating as vivid and true an experience as possible, the wizards who created the game offered players - pretty much for the first time - a chance to play the Batman of gadgets and tech that we know - and love - in a form that is an amalgamation of the comic book and movie characters.

Of course you cannot have a true Batman experience without also having the iconic bad guys from the stories - and one of those super villains - The Scarecrow - is actually a character closer to home than you might think.

Originally a doctor at Arkham Asylum, thanks in part to his madness and mad experiments, the doc ends up an inmate - and his alter ego, The Scarecrow - ends up being responsible for horrific 'research' projects that generally lead to nasty deaths.

In the harbor can be found a boat that functioned as a sort of secret lab for The Scarecrow - that is also the home of one of the more creepy and disturbing Easter Eggs found in the game.

When Batman lands on the deck if he uses his special vision it will reveal an encrypted lock that he can use his decryption device to open. Entering the password 'CITY OF TERROR' causes a concealed hatch to open.

When Batman goes inside the boat his PoV switches to first-person, and inside he finds some creepy remnants of The Scarecrow’s experiments - including what appears to be the dead body of a Thug in a chair at the bow of the boat.

When you approach the body though, it briefly comes to shocking life and then truly does die. Nearby is an invoice that reveals the purpose of the lab.
