Coal is a resource that is used for turning iron into steel. It's ability to reach higher temperatures than any other fuel type in the game makes it essential for crafting. Coal nodes are dark black rocks, often found around the edges of mountains the further north to the spawn spot you go. Once you find a node, strike at it with your pickaxe to collect. One healthy node should offer nearly 100 coal.
