Tora: Claws up the wall and slides down. Kunoichi: Runs up the wall and flips backwards. Wall Jump: Run at a wall like you are going to wall run, but press A repeatedly to jump from wall to wall. The trick is to not move your left joystick with the movement of the Ninja or the game gets confused and you will fall. Run: Hold B while moving with the left joystick. Shimmy: Jump up by a ledge to grab on. Use the left joystick to move back and forth. Rope Walk: Carefully walk up to a rope and move onto it. Balance yourself with the left joystick as you move forward. The biggest problem people have with this is getting on the rope in the first place, so go slow until you get the hang of it. Stealth Kill: Hold Ltrigger to go into stealth mode. Sneak up behind an enemy and press X. Make sure your sword is unsheathed or pressing X will just unsheath it. Story [GEN002] _____________________________________________ Your name is Hiro and you are the hero of this story. (Coincidence? I think not!) The evil samurai warlord is transforming helpless animals into his minions in order to... TAKE OVER THE WORLD! *dun dun dun* It's up to you to save the animals and defeat the warlord to restore peace and harmony to the world. Characters Hiro: The main protagonist of our story. Hiro is the only ninja that can use Kuji magic spells. Futo: Hiro's best friend. He's a rather large guy and enjoys eating quite a bit. He attacks with a hammer that does a lot of damage. Suzume: Carries around a flute that is useful for charming enemies and then doing a lot of damage. Shun: The archer of the group, very useful for taking out enemy archers. Tora: He's very fast, nimble, and light on his feet. Also deadly at close range but is weak against spearmen. Kunoichi: Wields a spear, making her useful against spearmen. Grand Master: The teacher of all of the ninjas, he will send you on your quest. Tengu: Useful bird creatures that give you quests and sell stuff at Temples. Enemies Samurai: Basic sword-wielding enemy. Captain: Larger sword-wielding enemy that will run away. Archer: Shoots arrows at you. Upgraded Archer: Shoots flame arrows at you. Red Samurai: Basically the same as their blue counterparts but with more health and intelligence. Spearmen: Spear-wielding enemy, use a distanced attack to defeat. Mage: Shoots balls of darkness at you and can turn animals into more enemies. Paralyze him or use Kuji magic. Summoner: Operates a black hole and summons more enemies. Defeat by walking up and pressing A near the hole. Big Guy: Very large samurai with a spiked club. Use Futo to defeat him. Ninja: Very fast enemy that teleports around. Stun him with Hiro's regular Y attack or use Kuji magic. Bosses: Various guys, see each level for details on defeating. Evil Samurai Warlord: Crazed old guy who turns poor helpless animals into samurai. See his level for walkthrough. _____________________________________________ III. Walkthrough [WLKTHR] _____________________________________________ Ninja Mountain [LVL001] Spells:2 Ingredients:24 Money:55 Jizo:6 Animals:0 You will start off in Ninja Mountain as a barely trained young ninja. The goal of this level is to get you used to the controls and movement while showing you how to approach your environment. Leaving your house triggers a cutscene with the Ninja Master, who gives you your ninja hat! This is a useful item as it prevents you from being struck from arrows. But alas, you cannot use it while attacking. He tells us to go to the dojo to start training but we're going to do a few other things first. Walking forward on the path you should see a purple flower on the path in front of you. If you walk up to it you can pick it up with A. This is a Blue Petal and is one of the ingredients used to make potions. We'll talk more about potions when you can actually make them, so for now we're just picking up the ingredients. The ingredients don't give you an achievement except for picking up one of each kind, so I will show you where to find at least one of each kind during the walkthrough. For the more completed list in each level, go to the end section [APX004]. Directly across from the signpost saying "Ninja Village" there is a tree with an Oyster Mushroom on it. Instead of following the path to Ninja Village, we're gong to veer off to the left to find a Jizo Statue. Follow the rock formation on the left from your house until you come to a gap in the wall. In here should be your first Jizo Statue. Staying in the grassy field to the left of your house you will see some trees with fruit in them next to a little garden. In this garden is a Ginseng Root. The trees next to the garden you can walk up to and tap A repeatedly. This will cause the fruit to fall and it will heal you when you gather it. The same goes for the little berry bushes slightly to the right. You should see a crow-like creature walking around with an exclamation point above his head. This is a Tengu and he will talk to you. To the right of him you will see some darker barrels with 3 squares on them. You can break these open to get stuff like money and items. You can talk to the Tengu if you like, but once you're done continue on the main path and you will come to a break in the road. The left one leads to the dojo, which is where we're going next. Once you get to the bridge you can jump off the right side and into the water. There are some Koi swimming around here that you can fish for. By this time you will have noticed the question mark that pops up occasionally. Press down on the D-pad to receive tips on your current surroundings. These should explain the basics of fishing. Once you catch a fish it magically turns into sushi that gets stored in your inventory. These are useful for gaining small amounts of health so fish often! While you're in your boat paddle under the bridge and around the dojo. Hold B to go faster. You should come to another group of koi to fish for and a large rock. Behind this rock is a little patch of land that's separated from the main dojo area. You will not go straight from being in your boat hat to being on land here, so you have to cancel the boat and swim normally up to the shore. Your second Jizo statue is here near the rock wall. Now it's time to actually go into the dojo. The Tengu will scold you for being late (no matter how fast you get there) and will proceed to throw some enemies at you to learn the basics of fighting. Follow his instructions and gain some xp orbs. Unlike many other games, the orbs that drop in Mini Ninjas will not disappear over time unless you leave the area. So you can take out everything in your current way, then worry about gaining all the little orbs. Once you're done for the moment, he'll tell you to go find your friend Futo. So let's go save at the little glowing house and follow his trail. We will travel through the Fruit Glade where you can find some ingredients and items in barrels. On the Path to Lookout Point you should come across another save point and a spawn group of enemies that will give you enough xp to level up! Now we learned how to sprint, which is extremely useful in getting around quicker. A little bit forward from the enemies you will come to a big rock with an Oyster Mushroom on it. Behind this rock is your third Jizo Statue. Now you will have to learn to wall jump to get up to the next area. The D-pad tip should help you out, but feel free to check out the skills part of this guide. Climbing up will trigger a small cutscene and you will now learn to shimmy across a wall and wall run. Getting to Futo triggers a cutscene and unlocks him as a playable character. The cutscene will leave you at the dojo with the Tengu to practice some more skills and to learn a little of Kuji magic. Once you have mastered the skills, leave the dojo like you did last time and go up into the Fruit Glade. This time take the right path down the stairs towards the bamboo gate. Straight ahead there will be a pink tree with some enemies for you to fight. To the right is Ninja Village, and that path connects up with the main one that split off before when we were heading to the dojo. To the left is the exit from Ninja Mountain. We can't go there yet, so let's go forward to the temple. At the temple you will get your first Kuji Spell, Detect Kuji Shrine. You can equip it like you would an item in the Quick Item Menu by pressing select. New spells automatically put themselves in your menu as the selected item. This is important because if you forget to change it you could try to attack an enemy with your fishing pole. It doesn't work. :( Cast spells by pressing RT like you would to use the selected item. Before we go to find the shrine, we're going to go to the left of the Temple and enter the gap in the rock formation. Your fourth Jizo Statue is at the end of this path on the left. Go back to the temple and take the path to the left, you will cross a river with some stones in it and come to the Path of Enlightenment. You will have to cross the rope of the half-fallen bridge. Grab the white flower between the two berry bushes on the island as you pass by. This is an Anemone and activates the shrines. Continuing on the path into the rock caves, you will come across two little yellow points sticking up out of the ground on the left. This is a Spear of Ashida and will be added to your ingredient collection. Activate the shrine and you will get Spirit Form, which allows you to take over an animal's body. This is especially useful in locating different ingredients and Jizo Statues, because through the eyes of an animal they will see a cloud of smoke rising from the item. This mimics their sense of smell. The Tengu master will show up and you get to practice your new spell. At this point I would suggest going back to the temple to buy some recipes and start making potions. You should have enough money by this point to buy both recipes he offers, but if you don't refer to my money guide below [APX005]. You can also press LB to see what weapons he offers. These will be the standard at all of the temples throughout the game (unlike recipes which you have to progress to get new ones). You should have enough ingredients to make a couple of health potions if you'd like, but I always save those for boss fights and just use sushi while exploring. At this point, go back to the half-broken rope bridge where you go the Kuji Spell. This time, instead of crossing the bridge, fall off the ledge onto the grassy area below. Here you will find your fifth Jizo Statue. Hop in the water and try to get a feel for the boat controls. You'll be using them more frequently later on. Follow the river in your boat until you go down a small water fall. Here you can follow the path back to the Temple or you can keep following the river to the Dojo. I would suggest following the river to get your first taste of river rafting. From either location go back to the meet up area for the four paths with the pink tree in the middle. Take the path that leads out from Ninja Mountain and you should meet up with your Master. Congratulations on completing basic training! Now for the real fun to start. Follow the path out and you'll see a cutscene with your real enemies. These guys will be a bit harder than the Tengu, mainly because they'll actually fight back. Hop down on the platforms and approach the first group of enemies. I'd suggest trying to sneak attack as many as possible now, because getting the achievement for it later if you don't do throughout the game is kind of a grind. Anyway, beat the stuffing out of these guys and then approach the bridge. Go a little bit across the bridge, then jump off the side into the water. There is a little inlet with some koi to the left and back a bit, and there is a grassy area directly in front of you. Go to the grassy area with the crane on it and start walking up the path. Before the path gets narrow, there should be a small dent in the left rock formation that will hold your last Jizo statue. Follow the path until it comes to a seemingly dead end and then use your wall jump to get up to the next area. Defeat the archers by the bridge then follow the path to a group of enemies with some cages. Defeat these guys and move on. When you get to the bamboo gate the level will end and your score will be rated. _______________________________________________________________________________ Leaving Home [LVL002] Spells:2 Ingredients:28 Money:27 Jizo:8 Animals:16 From the start point walk up to the village and a short cutscene will start. When it's over go and talk to the Tengu to receive your first Tengu quest. Go around the other side of the house immediately to your left from the Tengu and hop up inside. In here is your first Jizo for this level. You can go over to the far right side of the village and kick the tree with the beehive to make the coveted honeycomb fall. This will restore health and energy, but the bees will get mad that you've destroyed their hive and come chasing after you. Just sprint away until they stop chasing you. Go across the river to fight the samurai on the other side. This will be your first experience with the captain rank samurai, who are big cowards and will run away once you've beaten their forces. If this happens just chase them down and kill them too. Once you've killed all the samurai, the Tengu will spawn on this side of the bridge. Talk to him to receive some Shurikens and then free the three animals from the cages around you. Continue on the main path and a little bit past the save point on the left look in the grassy area. There should be your second Jizo. You will encounter two more groups of samurai on your way up to the bamboo doors. Opening the doors will trigger another short cutscene and show you more animals you must save. You can spirit form and take control of the bear to kill these guys or you can just do it the normal way. There is an achievement for killing 10 enemies while in bear form! Once you've taken care of these guys, go to the front of the house to find a note from Suzume. Around the left side of the house is a Stone Cap for your ingredients. Go to the right where you will see a blue petal hidden away in the bamboo. There should be a break in the rock formation beyond it. Go in there and get your third Jizo on the left. Head back to the main path and save at the second save point. Now we're going to head to the Jadestone Hills. Head up the main path and go up some stairs to fight some samurai. Save at the third save point on the left and then go follow the path on the left into the woods by the little fireflies. The anemone is hidden in the small space to the left of the shrine. From here, wall run up to the grassy part above the shrine and cross the river to get your 4th Jizo. Go down the mini waterfall to see a short cutscene with Suzume. Defeat the samurai in the area and free her to gain her as a playable character. You should get in the habit of using her red orb attack to charm enemies as there is an achievement for charming fifty of them, which will take forever if you leave it until the last levels instead of doing it throughout. Free the two animals here and take control of the boar because there's another achievement for killing 10 enemies as it! A bunch more enemies will come down for you to take out, so it should be really easy to get the achievement. If not, don't worry, there's plenty more boars! By this point you should be about level 3 if you've been killing everything. Continue on and open the bamboo doors to find another save point. There's a Tengu a little bit up ahead that will ask you to find him a Burdock Flower. This is no problem as there is one off the path to the Temple. It is between the first and second dog/lion statues on your right. The Tengu at this shrine has another recipe for us, but it is too expensive. Don't worry though, all the later Temples will carry the recipes from earlier levels, so we can get it later. While you're up by the Temple Tengu, go around back of the mini building to find your fifth Jizo on the left. Give the Tengu at the bottom of the Temple his Burdock Flower for a Flask of Unstable Energy. Keep following the path to find a group of samurai guarding two more animal cages. Defeat them and free the animals. Get into the water and pull out your boat. Follow the river down the rapids until you come to a relatively calm area with a grassy shore on the right. Go up and save and walk up to the shrine. Go right and in a little nook should be the anemone and your sixth Jizo. Use the anemone to get Tornado and then head back to the water. Follow the rest of the rapids and you should end up in Mushroom Lake with a group of koi. To the left and ahead of you is a grassy area. Use your wall running and jumping skills to climb up to your seventh Jizo. From here fall back down to the grassy area and get in the water. Stick to the left side and continue to look for another little grassy area with your eighth Jizo. From here wall run up and get back onto the main path. Defeat the samurai patroling the area and save at the save point. Go up to the bridge and defeat the two guards, then proceed across and defeat the archers there. You can collapse those wooden platforms by smacking them with your sword a few times. Continue forward and break the animal cages on both sides of the road. You should be about level four now and will get your first power attack bonus. Now you can hit 3 people at once! Keep on the path to free the last two animals in the level and defeat the samurai. You'll get a note from Shun on the door, then open it to get graded for the level. _______________________________________________________________________________ Earth Castle [LVL003] Spells:0 Ingredients:24 Money:28 Jizo:8 Animals:19 Start out by going forward on the main path. There will be some gaps in the ground that steam rises out of, don't fall in or you'll get damaged and start back up where you were. Moving forward you should find a note from Shun. Follow the main path and down the ledge. When you get to the ledge leading back up you should see your first Jizo on the right. Your second Jizo is also very close, just before you get to the save point veer off to the left and it will be by a rock. Continue forward on the main path and defeat the samurai guarding the door. If you go around the left side of the castle you will see a patrol, but no matter how hard I try I can't get over there to defeat them. Wall running will make you fall down the crevasse, so I guess just ignore it for now. Going inside will trigger a cutscene where you see the giant samurai. Only Futo can defeat this guy so when you get there be prepared to switch. You can use bombs to damage him, but it's easier and cheaper to use Futo. Go to the right and collect your third Jizo and free the animals there. Follow the path back around to the bridge and defeat the enemies there. Free the animals in the corner to the left and then go across the bridge. When you get to the giant, don't try to beat him just yet. Defeat the smaller guys around him then run past and around the corner to take out the archers on the left. This will let you beat him without interference. Go through the doorway and save, then go to the left. Turn left again and go down the small passage way that is in the direction you came from. Defeat the archers and samurai and then grab your fourth Jizo from the left side. Go back to the save point and open the door with the red lanterns hanging from it. Defeat the patroling samurai and the archers in this area. There are two animal cages in the first house on the right and one around the corner of the house on your left. The fifth Jizo statue is in a little indent on the house on the right. You can go through the process of climbing the rope lanterns, or you can just go to the crack in the wall and wallrun up. Defeat the enemies in this area and then go back to the first big house on the right that's open. You will find a bear and a kitty caged up for you to free. Across from these guys are another three that need to be freed. Freeing these guys should level you up to 5 if you've been following my guide. Directly to the left of the cages will be a lit up 2-panel door that if you walk up to will open and more enemies will come out. Go up near the barred door in front of you and rotate your camera back to look at the open house. You should see your sixth Jizo in the corner. Go left a bit and open the sliding door on the front wall for two more animal cages. Across from the hidden room should be one more animal cage. From here wall run up the buildings that had the hidden room to get to the next area. Drop down to defeat the archers and then you should see your seventh Jizo tucked away on the left side of the stairs with the spearmen. Go free the animals on your right and you will probably hear a giant samurai. Go save to the right and then open the big doors. Fight off the archers and the samurai, then move onto the big guy with Futo. Once he's down, free the last three animals to the left and go towards the very right of this area. To the left side of the furthest house on the right is your final Jizo. Defeat the spearmen and go through the doors to save on your left. Go across the bridge and defeat the archers, then go through the doorway to get graded for the level. _______________________________________________________________________________ Boss Lumbering Fool [LVL004] This can be one of the easiest fights in boss history, or it can be the most annoying. The secret? All of the bosses in Mini Ninjas can only really be damaged by quicktime events that you have to make them trigger. For this guy, sit in one of the corners of the room and wait until he swings at you. His sword should get stuck in the red pillar allowing you to jump on top of it. At this point you will be prompted to press A repeatedly and then follow a series of buttons in a "simon says" routine until he's damaged. If you fail he'll throw you off and you'll take some damage. If you succeed you'll pull down his pants and he'll trip and fall through the floor. Repeat this 2 more times and you've beaten the earth boss. Yay! There's some healing potions in jars on the second level down if you're having trouble, but you can always go to your select screen and eat some sushi or drink a potion while you're in battle too. Defeating him will trigger a cutscene where you get to see your arch enemy, the Evil Samurai Warlord! _______________________________________________________________________________ Great River Canyon [LVL005] Spells:2 Ingredients:23 Money:57 Jizo:6 Animals:7 First off, you'll notice everything is this rusty yellowish color. This makes it hard to find different ingredients and Jizo statues so utilize your Spirit Form as often as possible so as not to miss anything. Follow the path down until you come to your first Jizo statue on your left and a note from Kunoichi. Continue on and talk to the Tengu. We now have enough money for that recipe! It's a useful one that will make a glowy shield around you for a little while. This comes in handy in the next part because you'll be bombarded with quite a few enemies. Clear these guys out and then cross the bridge. You should be about level 6 now. Save, then follow the path that the note from Tora is on. Hop across the rocks in the water and when you get to the one that looks like it has leaves on it, use your rock climbing skills to get up. Follow the path behind the waterfall and you'll get your second Jizo. Keep following the path up until you get to the top of the waterfall. Go right and across the stepping stones to get the anemone. Go back and go left this time to get to the shrine and learn Lightning Storm! This is also a useful spell as it attacks more than one enemy at a time. It takes more energy though, so be careful not to cast it too much. Go to the edge of the waterfall and get on the big rock on the right side. Your third Jizo will be on the rock. Fall down the waterfall and go back to the second save point. This time follow the main path up and defeat a patroling group of samurai. Continue until you get to the bridge with a ton of samurai and some animal cages to the right. Free the animals and then beat the enemies on both sides of the bridge. Save on the left side of the path, then follow it down to the samurai camp. Take out everyone on the left side and then get to destroying the camp! Destroying tents gives you money. Behind one of the tents near the boats with lanterns on them is your fourth Jizo. Go over to the right and defeat the samurai there and then free the animals. Once that's done, go across the water to the patch of land on the left and grab your fifth Jizo by the fruit trees. Save your game and let's go rafting! A flawless rafting run is attained by going down both sets of rapids without sustaining any damage to your boat-hat. This means you *can* bump up against some of the rocks or skid off of them as long as you don't take any damage. For right now though, we're just going to go down one set of rapids. Once you get to the calm area with the island, get on the island and wallrun up to the save point. You'll find a note from Suzume on the tree next to it. Balance across the log and continue through the cave. When you get to the ledge, jump forward because there is a gap in the ground here. You should see the shrine up on your right, go left and you should find a small clearing with a bunch of bamboo around. Go to the far right and you'll find the anemone. Activate the shrine to get Camouflage, which will turn you into a bush for a short amount of time. Keep in mind that this also uses up a lot of energy. Follow the path from the shrine to the right and you'll come to a clearing with your last Jizo on a rock to your left. From here jump back down into the water and finish out the rafting ride. Go towards the bank on the right and get the level graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ A Distress Signal [LVL006] Spells:0 Ingredients:19 Money:44 Jizo:3 Animals:5 Move forward to the water to get your first Sacred Lotus. These will always be in the water, attached to something like a rock or shore. Paddle forward towards the lit-up boat and into the cave. A cutscene with Shun will happen and when it's done go to the left and go ashore. The arrow men here will start throwing flame arrows at you, so be sure to equip your hat or drink an arrow shield potion. Follow the path up the left bank and around. Take out the arrow shooter and go behind the house to find your first Jizo. Follow the path along the rock face and take out another one of the arrow guys. Wallrun up to the next grassy level with a big rock on it to the left. From here, jump down to the ledge with another arrow samurai on it and defeat him. After that drop down and go kill the final arrow samurai off to the left. Sneaking up on them using stealth kill is a one-hit kill so it's a lot easier than stabbing them 5 times. Take out the spearmen guarding the cave and the guards at the very beginning. This should get you to level seven. Save the three animals to your right and then continue on taking the left path. Take out the arrow samurai and free Shun. Shun is your ranged attacker and he can also shoot fire arrows using his strong attack (holding Y). Head back to the other part of the cave, but stop when you hit the bridge. Jump off the left side and swim towards the second Jizo on the rock. Swim back the other way and climb up on the rock the Sacred Lotus is attached to. Hop over to the other rocks and back onto the other side. Go to the left bank and follow the path up again and into the caves. This time take the right path, fight some more samurai and spearmen, then open the bamboo doors. Save your game and then go forward and to the right to talk to the Tengu. You should see a patrol heading towards you. Take them out and then move up to the mini camp to take out the arrow samurai. Follow the path up to the right, save, and go through the red Temple gate. Go up to the Temple and get the Essence of Fish from the Tengu there. Go past him towards the ledge and look down. You should see the lake and a small patch of land to the left. Jump down and get on the patch of land. The sticks poking out of the ground near the bank are Horse Tails and are ingredients for the potion you just bought. Follow the grassy path up a bit and you should stumble upon your third and final Jizo. Follow the path until it ends and hop into the water and over to the bridge. There should be an area for you to come ashore on the right side. Go talk to the Tengu again. My game could just be glitchy, but he says the same thing to me over and over without giving me a reward no matter how many times I go to the Temple. I still got the achievement for completing all of the Tengu Quests at the end of the game though. Cross the bridge and fight the groups of samurai on the first island. Use the checkpoint and move onto the second island. Continue to take out all the samurai and make your way to the third island. It's important that you save here because you're going to be fighting a new kind of enemy once you make it back to regular land. It's the mage samurai who will throw balls of darkness at you that can paralyze you and make you vulnerable to attacks. The way to beat him is to attack the ball he sends at you, sending it back to him. While he's paralyzed, go up and smack him with your sword a few times and he should die. Go onto the last bridge and trigger the cutscene with the mage and then go and defeat him and the other samurai around the camp. Always defeat the mages first because they can turn the animals you've set free back into more samurai for you to kill. Once the mage and his group are defeated, move to the right and take care of the arrow samurai. They're guarding the other two animal cages you need as well as lots of money! Once all that is done, go back to the main path and open the doors to be graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Haunted Forest [LVL007] Spells:1 Ingredients:27 Money:48 Jizo:5 Animals:11 Start off by following the main path forward until you come to the tree line. Go right sticking to the rock face on the side and you should come to your first Jizo statue by the fourth tree. Continue along and go into stealth mode. There will be a fake cage next to one of the trees coming up, don't break it because it will alarm all of the guards in the area. You can either take out all of the guards with stealth in this area, or you can show yourself and use one of your red balls to do a power attack and take a few out at a time. Either way should level you up to eight. Once you're done go over to the cages by the lamp-post and free the bunny there. From here continue forward and to the right along the main path until you see some more cages on the left side of the path in the distance. There will be a burning tree and a patrol further along the main path. Go towards the cages for now and take out the enemies there. I would recommend stealth here because these guys are all red and take longer to kill, giving the archers time to get your health down with their flame arrows. Not to worry though, if you have an arrow potion you can go in screaming wildly and swinging your sword should you feel so inclined. The cages here are fake, but they're an important marker. Here there are two paths, one going up a slope and one staying on ground level. Follow the ground one for now and you will come across your second Jizo next to the third tree on the right. Double back to the fake cages and take the higher slope path this time. You will come to a set of three barrels and a group of unguarded cages. Break these guys open and continue forward along the path. Take out the arrow guys at the other end of this path and take out the guards on the lower level. There will be an empty cage and a cage with two bunnies in it by the lamp post, free these guys and then move back towards the other two empty cages near the tree. Keep going and you will come to another low-level/slope split. Take the higher one and go to the very end of it. Grab the Spear of Ashida sticking up out of the ground by the tree there. There is also a honeycomb on one of the fruit trees if you'd like to get some more of that. Fall down off the ledge and go towards the Tengu wandering around on the lower path. The talk to him again immediately to receive another gift. Make sure you talk to the Tengu before you steal the honeycomb or the bees will sting you while you're talking to him. Go forward some more and you should be back where we started at the beginning of the level. This time, follow the main path up the middle and take out any samurai along the way. Once you come to the burning tree on your left, save on the right side of the path. Behind the save point you should see a break in the rocks with a path going down it. Follow the path until you get to the ledge. Drop down into the area with a fruit tree and some bushes and look to your left. Your third Jizo statue should be there in the grass. Continue on down another ledge and towards the water. Boat over to the other shore on the left with the guard patroling the pier. Sneak up along the left side of the house and take out the guard between the rocks. Move back a bit and wait for the other guard to come and check it out. Take out that guy and the one patroling the pier. Moving forward you will find a note from Tora attached to a boat. Sneak up the winding path and save at the checkpoint. Stealth as many samurai as you can, but once you're seen go to the side of the village directly across from the one you snuck up on. Take out the mage here and then change into Futo to take out the big guy. Make your way around the front of the village to take care of the arrow guys. Taking out everyone attacking the village should level you up to 9. Once everything in the area is killed, go back over to the where the mage was. There should be your remaining animal cages next to some barrels with a decent amount of money in them. Free these guys and then continue on the path leading out of the village. You will pass a broken bridge with another note from Tora saying that there is no way across besides the left path. Yay creepy path in the mists! Start along the path to trigger a cutscene and then walk up to white signpost saying "Lost Soul's Graveyard." From here pan your camera over to the right and you should see a rock cluster in the trees. Go over there and look behind the rocks to find your fourth Jizo. Go back to the main path and continue up to the entrance to find yet another note from Kunoichi. This tells you that you can't hurt the ghosts with normal weapons. So what are we going to use? Kuji Magic of course! But we have to find the spell first, so save in the corner of this broken down building and then continue forward into the graveyard. You can walk forward on the main path normally until you start to see a staircase off in the distance. Then get in the grass and stealth forward. The ghosts here will drain all of your energy and then your health so it's best not to let them see you. It's kind of hard to see so be careful not to try and stealth on the main path as there is no grass to hide in. As you get closer to the ghosts and the staircase, you will see that the path splits into two staircases, one left and one right. Take the right side and remember to keep stealth on at all times! When you get up to the next area you should see a little building in front of you. Make your way around the gravestones and up to the building. Go around the back of it on the right side to find your last Jizo statue! In the building is the anemone that we need to activate the shrine. Obviously we can't really stealth up there, so we need to grab it and make a run for the shrine. Go back around to the front corner of the shrine by the staircase and look to your right. You should see two fireflies in the distance flying around. That is where we're going to run towards once we grab the flower. If you're lucky you can run up, grab the flower, then run back and stealth in the grass without them seeing you. If not just make a break for it towards the fireflies and you'll run into a small cave in the rocks. The ghosts won't follow you very far down here, so you shouldn't have a problem. Go forward down the cave and activate the shrine to receive Sunrays. As you've probably guessed, this will defeat the ghosts. You will have to use it on all of the ghosts in the graveyard to get an achievement. Once you're done fighting off all the ghosts in this area, go back down the stairs and this time take the left staircase. Follow this path forward, defeating the enemies as you go, and you will run into the end of the level and get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Night Castle [LVL008] Spells:0 Ingredients:26 Money:45 Jizo:8 Animals:16 You'll start off in a misty area with a Tengu right near you. You can talk to him if you like, but he only has stuff we already have so it's kind of pointless. To the left will be a note from Suzume telling us about a stump we can use to access the castle. We'll go that way, but first let's go forward until you see the path. Then head right to the big barred door. To the left of the door will be your first Jizo. Grab that and then take out the guys guarding the front door to the castle. This is done really easily by making them all mad and then using your lightning spell to thin out the group. Make sure to get the spearmen up by the door, and then jump back down to the grassy area. We're going to go right from the way we're facing now (left from our start point) towards the fireflies. There will be an illuminated broken stump in the trees. Go around back of the tree and fall down the hole. Make your way through the cave to the water and look to your left to find your second Jizo. Head into the water and go left until the path narrows by some Horse Tails. Go ashore and up the ledge to the gap in the rock face. Equip your Sunrays spell and wall jump up and out of the well to the next area. There is a save point behind you and a ghost that needs to be taken care of to your right. Next to the ghost will be a little stone grave, climb up the ledges and get your third Jizo. Now go up the big staircase and jump over the big crack. The door is barred, so jump to the small grassy patch on your right. Follow this little path and wall run up to the first area of the castle. Stay on the top of the wall in stealth and switch to Shun for some easy target practice. Once you've taken out all the enemies in the immediate area, look to the left to spot the glowy yellow sliding door. Walk up to it to open it and fight off two more enemies. Then go around the corner to fight a mage and some more guards. There should be two cages in an open building with a barrel next to them. Make sure to trigger the other sliding door in this area to find another cage. Freeing the animals should level you up to ten, giving you another target with your power attack. Go through the archway and up the slope to find the second save point. Be prepared for a bit of a bombardment when you go through the next archway. I would recommend lightning for the spearmen and then a power attack for a few of the others. You can pick off the rest with regular attacks. Make sure to trigger the sliding door on the left to fight another enemy. Go back to the archway by the save point and look left. There will be a short wall behind the building on your left that you need to wall run up. Fall down the other side to find an animal and a sliding door with an enemy hiding in a jar. Go to where the animal cage was and get on top of the wall that was behind it. Climb onto the building on your left and cross the rope lantern. Wall jump up and go right to find your fourth Jizo. Continue along this ledge and when you see enemies take the out with Shun's bow. Drop down and go to where the captains were having frog races. Open the sliding door on the right if it's not already open and fight the enemies and collect the Jizo. Go around the corner, free the two frogs and break open the barrels with a ton of money inside. Now go back to the second save point and take the left path to find the third save. Through the archway and to your left is a building with rope lanterns attached to the ground. In this building is your seventh animal cage. Now here is where the game wants you to sneak around like a proper ninja and get to the main castle area. But then we'd be missing some cages and Jizo and all of that xp! So rope walk over to the second building and take out the four archers with Shun. Then get everyone together and lightning their sad little butts. Now you'll probably have noticed the two big samurai in the next area. Take the one closest to the third save point first. There is an animal cage in one of the corners by the second big guy. Now look over to the outer wall and you should see two barrels. Break them open and go through the crevasse to get your sixth Jizo. If you keep going along this ledge and through another crevasse at the other end you will have saved yourself a whole bunch of rope walking. Take out everything in this area and feel free to use your power attack because at least one of these guys drops a red orb. Go save at the fourth save point up by the barricaded door and then go to the lamp string that is resting on a tree branch. Wallrun up to this string and rope walk to the very tall building. Go slightly to your left and up the side of the wall that is jutting out to get to the next tier. Go to the right and wall run up another jutted out piece to get to the next tier up. Take out the arrow guy at the top of this building and then rope walk to the next area. Drop down and take out everything in this area and then free the two animals in the open house and save at the fifth save point. Wall run up to the top of the house the animals were in and then rope walk across to the next area. Take a potion of arrow shield and then drop down and defeat the mage first. Then go for the big guy and then the peon samurai. Once that's done wall run up the building with the pots in it and rope walk back up to the building you were just on. (This will require you to go to the previous area and go back up) Use the other rope to go to the tall building in the next area. Climb up to the top the same way you did before and take out the archer to receive your seventh Jizo. Drop down and take out the two guards and save at the sixth save point. One of them will probably run up and come back with reinforcements, which is ok because that's just more xp for you! Hug the left wall and make your way up the slope. When you get to the top, turn to your right and climb up on the rocky ledge that is up against the stone wall. Run along this ledge and around the corner to find a small alcove with your last Jizo. Run back and go to the slope again. Up at the top of the slope go all the way forward to the stone wall and turn right. You can wall jump up to the upper ledge in the little space here. Go up and go to the left to take out all of the archers on the wooden platforms. The top platform will have a boar and the seventh save point. The third platform will have a cat for you to rescue. Drink an arrow potion and go the other way on the ledge to fight off a horde of samurai and a mage. Once they are all defeated, drop down on the right side to free three more animals in the open houses and save at the eighth save point. Get back up on the ledge using the staircase to the left through the archway. Look to the left and you should see a building with another mini building in front of it. (It is actually the top of the archway you just went under.) Wall run up these two structures, go to the other side, and then drop down between the two flags to find the last animal cage. Go back up to the top of the structure you just fell off of and use the rope lanterns to get all the way over to the bridge. There is another rope lantern leading off of the bridge in the other direction. This leads to absolutely nothing, so don't bother going over there to check it out. All of the items and animals are before this point in the level. Go to the left and drop down onto the bridge. Fight your way across and run through the doorway at the other end to get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Boss Windy Pants [LVL009] This guy is a little more challenging than the earth boss, but still nothing horrible. He has three attacks: Fart Blast-> He will shoot multiple clouds of noxious gas out in a circle. Fart Rocket-> He will look rather constipated for a few seconds and then he will shoot up a few feet and release a cloud onto the floor that spreads out around him. Fart Puff-> He farts one little cloud that follows you around. You can only dodge the first two types of attacks, as they will take away hp instead of your ki. The blast won't go through pillars so you can just stand behind one and be safe. The rocket will go through pillars, so you have to jump when he shoots up in the air to avoid it. The puff is how you're going to damage him. When he sends out a puff, he'll start fanning it towards you. While it follows you run up to him and press Y when prompted to start the quicktime event. Make sure the puff isn't too far behind you or it won't work properly and he'll just smack you with his fan. If the puff catches up to you it will drain your ki so press A repeatedly to get out of it. You have to use the quicktime event on him three times, just like the earth boss, and he'll go down. After you defeat the boss, you get to see yet another humorous cutscene with our enemy Mr. Warlord, who sets up another boss for us. (He's so nice like that) _______________________________________________________________________________ Grassy Hills [LVL010] Spells:2 Ingredients:36 Money:119 Jizo:8 Animals:18 Start off by going across the bridge and follow the path to the right that is marked by fireflies. Go up the rocky ledge and move forward along the path until you come to some ledges on your right. Climb up and go forward. Along the right side in a little indent in the wall is your first Jizo. Keep going on this path and you will come to a sawed off tree bridge. Cross it and then to your right there will be an opening in the rocks with the anemone flower. Take it and continue on the path to the shrine to receive Sonic Boom! This spell is very useful for when you're surrounded and taking damage. Go back the way you came across the log and down the ledges. When you get to the bottom, go left and up some more ledges to find the first enemy camp. Sneak forward and drop off of the ledge you're on. Behind the rock in front of you is your very first Wild Parsley. These are a little more difficult to spot as they look like grass and will often blend in. Take out the mage and the other samurai in this area and then save and the first save point. If you want to go back up the main path to your left and take out all the enemies feel free. I certainly did because that means more xp! Don't forget to break down the tents for some money and then move along on the main path. Down the first set of stairs you should very plainly see the second Jizo on your left. Continue on and defeat all of the samurai guarding the broken bridge. To the left you will see some animals for you to free. When you're done, go to the right side and follow the path down to the ledges below. Hop, wall run, and shimmy your way across. You will come to a place where you are clinging to a wall and then you can't go any further. Jump to the ledge on the other side river and continue on that way. You will come to a small cave on the other side of the river. Continue on and you will find a Tengu next to a lamp. He doesn't do anything useful like sell us stuff so continue on. Go through the trees and defeat the samurai patroling here. They're all red so it's fastest just to use Hiro's red orb attack. The samurai guarding the burnt house usually drops a red orb to replace it. Go into the burnt house and find your third Jizo! Go defeat the archers near the bridge and then cross it to trigger a cutscene where you will see Tora struggling in his cage. On the path in front of you are two more animals for you to free. Continue on to find your fourth Jizo right on the main path. Keep going on the main path and it will split into a left and a right path. Free the animals just up the road to the left, then go back to the right path. Save at the third save point and then go up the steps to talk to the Temple Tengu. He will have two new recipes for us, one of which we will need for Tora's achievement. Now turn around but don't go down the stairs. Go to your left where there is a Tiger Lily and down the grassy portion of the path down you should spot your fifth Jizo. Now drop down and go back the way you came to the split in the path. Follow this path until you come to the camp where you can see Tora in the cage. Save at the fourth save point on the main path and then go free Tora from his captors. It's easiest to take down the majority of the samurai in the area and then go stand next to the swirling vortex. You should be prompted to press A repeatedly to build up the energy and sent it back to the caster. This vortex spawns more enemies and if you get interrupted by being hit while doing it, you have to start over. If you keep getting hit by the samurai that spawn stun them with your shurikens and then give it a try. Once you've freed Tora you should find 3 animal cages in the back of the camp. Don't forget to break all of the tents and barrels for money! Go to where the tall tent in the camp was and look towards the river. Scanning the rock face should let you see a break in it marked by fireflies. Go that way and hop across the stones in the river. On top of the first little ledge will be the anemone. Continue on to find your sixth Jizo and go into the little cave behind it. Following the path should bring you to an opening where your camera will auto adjust and you will see three paths, two on the left and one on the right. Take the middle one and go around the cavern until you find the shrine to give you Wall of Wind. This seems like it would be useful, but I didn't use it all that much. Make your way back up around the cavern and out the way you came. There is nothing on the other two paths. Head back to the main path and the fourth save point. Continue forward and take a potion of arrow shield before you cross the mini bridge. There's going to be a large number of flame archers and you don't want to be unprepared. Take care of these guys and then the summoning samurai. The house where the summoning samurai was will have two animal cages to the right of it. Free them and then go save at the fifth save point. Go up the stone steps and defeat the enemies here to gain level twelve. Open the bamboo doors and go up and to the left to find a group of patroling red samurai. Go all the way up to the barred door and then to your right up the grassy ledge path to find your seventh Jizo. Go back the way you came and save at the sixth save point. Go through the glowing red archway to trigger a cutscene. There is an archer immediately to your left that should be taken out first. Behind him you will see your eighth Jizo. Run to the other side of the camp and take out the two archers there. Then you should try to separate the red samurai from the spearmen and take them out. Change into Futo and take out the big guy, then shuriken the spearmen and finish them off. When you're all done break all the animal cages (four in the main area by the wagon, three in the open house on the right), and break open the barrels next to the house for a lot of money. Now that you've beaten everything here you can open the door back the way you came to collect anything you might have missed in the level, or you can go forward through the next door to get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Flooded Valley [LVL011] Spells:0 Ingredients:18 Money:32 Jizo:3 Animals:0 The first thing you'll notice is that this is another one of those rusty colored levels where things are hard to find. Not to worry though, because we don't have a lot to find here. First thin you should do is run up the path and talk to the Tengu. He'll ask you to go find his uncle at the Temple. After you talk to him go forward on the main path and save at the checkpoint. Go further up the path until you reach the water's edge and the white signpost for "White Swallow Village." Look to your left to find a house and go over and inside it to find your first Jizo. Now boat or run over to the right side of the map where you will see a very large koi swimming in the water. Get in your boat if you're not already and go to the right from the koi. you will see an opening in the bamboo and our Temple entrance. Make your way to the stairs and go up to the second set of stepping stones. Go right in the water here and you should see your second Jizo ontop of a rock next to a Sacred Lotus. Now go back to the path and talk to the Temple Tengu at the top. This guy doesn't have any new items for us to buy so go back to where the big koi was and land on the rice paddys. The younger Tengu will have moved over here so talk to him to get your brand spankin' new fishing pole! Go into the water and fish for the big koi like you would for any other fish. Once he is caught, hold on to your hat 'cause you're going for a ride! If you get stuck on any of the houses or trees the fish will return to his starting position and you'll have to start over, so try to follow along with him and avoid as many obstacles as possible. He'll take you up the strong current area that you can't get up by yourself and dump you in the middle of four partially submerged houses. Look for the one that has a small entrance in the side of the roof and go inside to find your last Jizo. It's tricky to get this one because if you jump up while you're too close to the ledge that the Jizo is on you will fly backwards. Jump towards the ledge while you're about an inch away and this should make you land on the platform to get the Jizo. From here boat over to the rice paddys with the flags on them and save at the checkpoint. Take out the samurai guarding the path and then sneak over to the right side and up the paddys to take out the archers over there. Once they're done go to the main group at the door. There's a mage here so make sure to kill him first and then the rest of the group. There's two more enemies down the long path to the left of the door for extra xp. Open the door to the castle and head inside to be graded. This is probably the shortest level in the game, but don't worry a nice long ascent through the castle is coming up! _______________________________________________________________________________ Water Castle [LVL012] Spells:0 Ingredients:21 Money:97 Jizo:6 Animals:22 Go over to the left first to take out the archers and free the two animals there. Then go over to the right and kill those archers and go all the way down the path to free another animal. Go back to the main bridge and take down everyone there and open the door. There will be a group of samurai so kill these guys too and then go save at the first Checkpoint. There are two animals up in the left corner to free, then take the right door. There's a mage here so take him out first and then take down the archer tower. There will be more archers to your right that you can take down and then clean up all of the regular samurai left. When you're done go over to the other side of the river and go to the right of the waterfall to find your first Jizo. Now go back to the main entrance and take the left door. Walk a bit forward to trigger a cutscene and we will encounter a new type of enemy. This is the Ninja Samurai. He will teleport around and when he stops he will rise in the air and then strike you. You can dodge this by running to the side. He will deflect your shurikens so to damage him you have to stun him with your regular Y attack and then hit him. He will also go down against Kuji Magic so feel free to use either method. Go up along the right side and you will find two more enemies between two of the buildings. Defeat them and then move on to the spearmen and the patroling group at the back of the area. This should level you up to thirteen. Once they are defeated go free the animals from the open building on the right. Then go around the building on it's right side and into the little area with the tree where you will find your second Jizo. Now go back to the main area. Straight across from the building we just went behind, you will find another open building with more animals to free. Do that and then go to the left back the way we came. you should run into an archery group to defeat. Now go back to the main path and continue on through the archway. Save at the checkpoint to your left and then continue right through the glowing doorway. You will see a lot of water on the ground that you can walk in, so let's go to the right and wall jump up in the small alcove. There will be three enemies up there along with your third Jizo statue. Fall down on the other side and then go back up on dry land. Defeat the patroling group and then the archers on the platform to your left so you can free the animals there. You will find the third Checkpoint to the right of the Zen garden, so go save there. Leave the empty cage alone as it will alert the archers to your presence. Go to the left and you will find a big guy to fight with Futo. Go to where the big guy was and you will see a small set of doors with a mini roof being held up by two posts. Wall run on the wall next to it to flip backwards onto this little roof. There is another one of these next to the save point but I can never get it to work with Hiro, only Futo. Once you're up there hop up onto the wall and take out all of the samurai up there. Then free the animal and cross the rope lantern to the other wall. Defeat the guys over here too and then free the other animal. Hop down and go into the water. Look left and you will see a fox for you to set free. Then go across to the other side and you will see two fake cages and your fourth Jizo. Go to the glowing doorway and use Shun to take out all of the enemies you can see on the rooftops. Boat over to the upturned wagon and use it to get up to the roof on the left. Hop over to the next roof to the left and free the chicken there. Then make your way forward to the big roof at the back of this area. Use Shun to take out the archers in the open wall in front of you and then rope walk across to free the animals here. Use Shun to defeat the last archer on the platform to the right and then hop down. Go through the archway and then up the flowing stairs. When you get to another archway you will see the fourth Checkpoint. Use it then jump on top of it to go over the wall behind it to find your fifth Jizo. Make your way back to the flowing stairs and this time go through the archway. Stand on the very edge of the door just before you fall into the water and then use Hiro's red orb attack on the enemy group to the right to shoot yourself up there. Switch to Shun and take out the archers. Then go down to the building on the the left side of this area and free all the animals. Be careful because the pot next to the cages has a Ninja Samurai in it! Once you're all done go over to the steps leading out of this area and defeat the spearmen. You'll come to another set of flowing stairs and across them is your last Jizo. Grab that and head up the stairs. You'll come to a calm area with some koi swimming around. Go through the lit up archway to get graded for the level. _______________________________________________________________________________ Boss Timid Swimmer [LVL013] This guy is one of the most annoying bosses, primarily because of the difficulty of accurately boating around. He has three attacks: Shurikens-> Yes, the boss can actually throw shurikens! They will do damage instead of stun you though. Water Swipe-> when you are in the water he will use his weapon in a slicing motion to damage you. Stab-> When you are jumping from platform to platform he will jab his weapon at you. You will start out in your boat hat. Go directly forward to the light up staircase in front of you. Get on that and go to the right towards the bright red post. Stand behind it and he will swing at you cutting a piece of the post. Walk up to it and press Y when prompted to start the quicktime event. There is another post farther to the right on the platforms and another one to the left. So get in your boat hat and head back to the stairs. This time it's a bit trickier because you have to do the middle one first, then the right one, and then the left one for him to be the right size to cut each post. Do the three quicktime events and he's history! Now we get yet another cutscene with our most amusing enemy, the warlord! He's set up another boss because he can't be bothered with coming to fight us himself yet. _______________________________________________________________________________ Winter Range [LVL014] Spells:2 Ingredients:35 Money:103 Jizo:8 Animals:19 You'll start out in a little forest area next to your campfire. Don't worry the snow is coming I promise! Go down off this ledge onto the main path and start heading forward. You'll see that the path splits into two, so take the right and find your first Jizo on the left side of the path. Go up and talk to the Tengu to get your final quest! You should have seen about a million of the tiger lilys by now but in case you haven't been collecting them there is one in the woods to the right of you all the way back and to the left. Giving him the flower should complete the achievement "Tengu Friend." Now continue forward until you come to where the path is surrounded by rock on both sides and you will see a wooden thing leaning up against the rock to your left. Right next to it is a little blue Mountain Fire mushroom. Congratulations! You've just gotten "Botanist" as well! Go forward on the main path some more and save at the Checkpoint on your right. The path will split again and it's easiest to take the right path. There's three sets of patroling samurai that you want to take care of while they're on this path. Then head up to Tokugawa Village to defeat the archers and the summoner. Free the two animals here and then head forward to find a note from Kunoichi. Just up from the note is a rock and here you are going to turn left and find a stone stairway. There is an anemone to the right. Go up the ledge and your second Jizo will be by the bush. Go up the next ledge to find the shrine where you will get Ice Storm. This is particularly useful against the Ninja samurai. Go back down to the main path and continue to the second Checkpoint. Continue forward to the rocky canyon and defeat the group of patroling samurai that you will run into just on the other side. Now use Spirit Form to take control of one of the animals that they turn into and go forward. Walk up to the cages but do not get out of Spirit Form. When you get close enough a group of enemies will drop down out of the trees. Go grab the third Jizo statue from behind the cages and then defeat all the samurai that just spawned. Don't worry about the ninja until you've stealth killed a few of the archers. This will make sure you don't die from being shot too much while you're fighting him. This should make you level fourteen. Once you're done go back and free the animals. Continue forward and you'll run into another area with a lot of archers and some spearmen guarding the exit to the next area. Take out the guards on both sides of the path then go for the spearmen. Continue on to find another note from Kunoichi and the third Checkpoint. Make sure you save and then go forward to trigger a cutscene with Kunoichi. This area is heavily guarded so we're going to do a few things to make it easier. First stealth over to the right and take out the archer tower. Then run behind a tree quickly and stealth again. Move out of the way while in stealth because a bunch of enemies will come looking for you. You can use this time to defeat them with Hiro's red orb attack because they will all be in a nice little group lined up for you. This should trigger the archers and spearmen to come looking for you. Run away and go back into stealth mode. Now go along the right side until you come to a grassy area that extends out between the two sections of the camp. Carefully move up and then take out both of the archer towers. This should upset pretty much everything so run back and hide in stealth again. If you run back to the beginning of the camp a relatively small group will follow you, and they will be followed by a few small red samurai. Defeat these guys and now you can pretty much bum rush the camp. Another strategy for the camp is to put on a flask of arrow shield and then just charge the camp like a crazed little ninja and use your newly found ice storm to freeze everyone. I prefer the previous method because it tends to fail less and/or use up less health potions. Once you're done smash all the tents and cages in here then free Kunoichi from her cage. When you're done with this area you should have twelve animal cages on your progress menu so check and see if you missed any. Freeing Kunoichi will unlock two more achievements for you! She's great at defeating spearmen, but be careful because if you start attacking too close they will stab you. Move back a little more than where you would attack with Hiro, she will move up quite a bit on her own during her attack. Once you're done freeing all the animal and raiding the camp for money, head back to the beginning of the camp and go along the path until you reach the white signpost that says "Camp Grounds." From here go back towards the camp hugging the left wall. This should put you up on a small ledge. If it doesn't just wall climb up on the ledge. Continue on the ledge until you see a tree that is in the middle of the ledge instead of on one of the sides. Look to your right to find your fourth Jizo. Jump back down and get on the main path to go save at the fourth Checkpoint. Go left through the Temple gate and up to the Tengu. He will have a new recipe for us, which you should have more than enough money to get if you destroyed the enemy camp. Once you've gotten that go back towards the checkpoint and go on the creepy bridge. You're going to have to defeat two barricades of archers, spearmen, and regular samurai. I'd recommend running through everyone to the archers and then using Hiro's red orb attack to take out all of the archers before doing anything else. Then you can clean up the rest of them. There is a big guy inbetween the two barricades so make sure you use Futo to defeat him. Once you've made it across the bridge open the door and save at the fifth Checkpoint. Go to the left and free the animals by the barred door. Turn around and look left to find your fifth Jizo. Once you're done go back and take the right path to find a bunch of monkeys in hot springs. They look cute now, but they will all turn into ninjas when the mage appears. Run forward past the three hotsprings and go up the ledges to find him. Defeat him and his ninjas then continue into the rocks from his location. You will find the sixth Checkpoint and up a little from that is a sign for "Old Mountain Road." From here climb up on the first ledge to your left to find your sixth Jizo. Moving forward you should find two red big guys. Try to stick to one side to only make one mad at a time because these guys are a pain to fight as a team. Keep up on your health and bash away. If you want it helps to use a few cherry bombs to weaken them. Go take out the spearmen and continue on through the door. Take the right path and follow it up to find your seventh Jizo on the left side of the path. Keep following the path to the seventh Checkpoint then make your way into the Forgotten Caves. Stay to the left until you come to the second white clearing with three ghosts in it. Use sunrays to get rid of the ghosts and then find your eighth Jizo to the left of the path you were on. Go to the small rock in the frozen water and get the anemone from it. Turn back the way you came and take the left path (the right one if you're facing away from it, NOT the one we came from). When you come to the white area again there will be three paths. Take the far right one and climb up on the ledge with the lamp and the butterfly. The shrine should be back in here and it will give you Slow Time. This is very useful for large groups because it will let you thin them out without taking damage. Now go back to the path and go back the way you came towards the room with the anemone rock in it. Hug the right wall and you will run right into the exit for the level and get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Snow Castle [LVL015] Spells:0 Ingredients:33 Money:138 Jizo:7 Animals:19 You will start off on a ledge in the snow. Go forward and you will pass a couple of signposts. Take the far right path up the ledge and you will come to a small enemy camp. Defeat these guys and continue on. You'll come to another group of enemies to defeat and to the right of the path is your first Jizo! Keep going and you will come to a bridge. Go right and defeat the two enemies guarding the barred door. Then go defeat the enemies patroling the bridge and save at the first Checkpoint. Go to the right of the bridge before you cross it and your second Jizo will be on the ground by a bush. Go across the bridge and take out the archer towers. Defeat the spearmen up by the door and then go around to the right side of the castle to find some ledges. Climb up and go over the wall to defeat some enemies and save at the second Checkpoint. Take out the archers in the middle and the patrolling group of guards. Then run past all of the sliding doors in this area and defeat all of the guards that come out of those. You should find two animal cages in separate doors. Now go to the path leading up to the spearmen guarding the door with the note from Suzume on it. On the right of this path will be a little opening with some animal cages and your third Jizo. Defeat the spearmen and then go back down the path and to the right through a small door. Run in and defeat the archers here, then free the two animals. Go through the next small door and save at the third Checkpoint. Trigger the sliding door to fight some more samurai and then free the monkey outside of it. Go back to where the spearmen were guarding the door, open it up and go left to the fourth Checkpoint. Go right in the next area to find a couple of archers on some platforms. Defeat them and then the big guy if he has seen you and comes over here. This should be enough xp to level you up to fifteen which is the level cap for this game! Congratulations! You get another achievement and you can take control of small blue samurai now! This is useful because they can fight and have four hearts instead of just one like an animal. Free the animal from the first platform and then go up to the second one where the flame archers were. Go to the very end and you should be prompted to press A. Do so for your fourth Jizo. It's a bit hard to see, but it's there, I promise! Drop down and head forward and to the right inbetween the two houses in front of you. Activate the sliding door on the right for some more enemies and an animal cage. Go forward and take out the archer platform and the other big guy. Try to lure him away from the archers on the steps in the back. Go to the left back towards the Checkpoint and activate that sliding door for some more enemies. Go defeat the archers by the stone steps and take the right path to a door in the castle. You will make your way up to a room with a bunch of yellow walls. You can break all of these open, so get out Tora and start shredding! You will find various items and enemies along the way, but make your way forward and to the right and then right again. You'll go right one more time and then you'll come to an open area with two pots. There are ninja samurai in these so be prepared. At the very end you will see an exit to the left and some more paper walls forward. Destroy the walls for your fifth Jizo and some more animals, then exit through the door. The best way to make sure you don't miss anything is to shred every single wall, no matter where you think it goes. You should have fourteen animals before you leave here, if you don't it means you've missed something. Once you've collected everything go through the door to find another note from Suzume who talks about the summoning samurai that we've already seen... so this doesn't make much sense. Anyhow, continue down the path and save at the fifth Checkpoint. Continue on the main path to the left and go right towards the stairs with the samurai guarding them. Take them out and then go up the stairs and take out the two archer platforms here. By the second platform you should be able to see your sixth Jizo in front of you. Go around to the other side of the house to find two animal cages. Sprit Form into one of them and go up to the next area. Go towards the right and get up against the wall by the archers. Pop out of spirit form and use Hiro's red orb attack to take these guys out all at once. Repeat on the group of patrolling samurai and then take care of the rest however you want. Then make the summoner's black hold back up on him and free the animals in the open house to the right. Open the big door and save at the sixth Checkpoint. Go up the stairs and open the next door to find the last area. Open both sides of the door and let the big guy see you. Wait for him to come through the doorway, then beat him with Futo. Spirit Form into the bear that comes out and then go through the doorway and run up the left side close to the wall. Defeat the spearmen at the top of those stairs and then go up the side of the ledge defeating the archers here. At the very end of this ledge you should see your final Jizo! Now take out the mage and the other archers in this area. If you're having a lot of trouble use a flask of arrow shield to protect yourself while you deal with the mage. Then go through the big door at the end to get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Boss Screeching Owl [LVL016] You will start off on the roof with the boss flying around you. He will swoop in and try to attack you a few times. This guy is pretty easy to defeat as he only has one real attack that is easy to dodge. He will fly at you and damage you with his claws. To avoid it simply run to one side. When he comes in for a landing on the roof to attack you, run to the other side of the roof. Wait for him to settle down then sneak up behind him using stealth to trigger the quicktime event. He'll land on one of the bottom ledges first, then one of the upper ones. His final quicktime event will be him at the very top of the roof. All you have to do is make your way up to that level and the quicktime event will trigger. Congratulations! you've beaten the last boss before the Warlord! You will trigger a cutscene with the Warlord in which he will set fire to his own building. How nice of him to save us the trouble! _______________________________________________________________________________ Snowy Canyon [LVL017] Spells:0 Ingredients:8 Money:16 Jizo:2 Animals:0 This level can be a large pain in the butt if you don't know where you're going. You start off sliding down a mountain in your hat trying to escape the avalanche behind you. If you go too slow or get caught on something and turn into a snowball you will die and have to start over. Everything is the same color blue and white so it will be difficult to tell where you are going at times, just bear with it and you'll eventually get it. Use B to go faster. In the first part you will have to dodge lots of trees and rocks. Try not to jump too high off of ledges as you will turn into a snowball if you fall down ontop of a tree. After a bit you will come to a part where you slide off of a small ledge and you have to jump to make it to the other side. This is an instant Checkpoint so if you die from now on you'll start here instead of at the beginning. There will be some enemies here that you can hit to instant kill, but be careful not to lose control. After the jump go left and make your way towards the trees on the right. You'll go into a bluish canyon and this is where it gets difficult. Try to make your way to the right first and then make a sharp left following the curvature of the canyon. You should come out into a wooded area. Dodge the trees and it'll spit you into another narrow passage way that is another instant Checkpoint. Follow the curve to the right and then you will get shot out over some ledges. Hit B just before you hit the ground to avoid rolling into a snowball. Dodge or jump over the blue jagged cracks in the ground and once you can see the red lights in the distance you will only have a bit more to go before your hat will stop sliding and the avalanche will stop. It's a bit frustrating if you don't get it at first, but just keep trying. You can always try to take the right path after the first big jump, but I could never find a way through that side. Go to the right and all the way to the barred door. By the tip of the downed tree you will find your first Jizo. Follow the path towards the red light to find the second one on the right side of the path. Go up to the enemy camp. I usually just bum rush the camp because there's not a lot of enemies. If you want you can use an arrow shield and take out the spearmen first or you can just run past the spearmen and use Hiro's red orb attack to take out the archer groups. Once you're done destroy the tents for some easy money and go through the red lit door to be graded for the level. _______________________________________________________________________________ Volcano's Shadow [LVL018] Spells:1 Ingredients:28 Money:29 Jizo:6 Animals:10 You'll notice that this level is pretty much all snowy white. This is nice because it's easier to find stuff like ingredients and Jizo that stick out of the snow. Start down the mountain towards the tree line and the path will split in two at the signpost for "Path To Camping Grounds." Take the right path to the abandoned camp and talk to the Tengu. He'll tell you that the samurai have retreated and are holding up somewhere else. Destroy the tents and free the three animals caged up here. Save at the first checkpoint then take the left path forward. On the left side of the path you will come to your first Jizo! Grab that and then go forward to find the first area with enemies. Jump down and take out the archer towers, followed by the mage and everyone else. Then free the two animals here and save at the second Checkpoint. Go to the left of the Checkpoint to find a slide. Go down there and you will come to a clearing with the final shrine of the game. Immediately to your right will be the second Jizo behind a fruit bush and some regular bushes. To your left, go up the little incline and the anemone is by the rock face. Go activate the shrine to receive meteor storm! This spell is incredibly useful, especially when fighting the final boss, but it does use up a lot of energy that takes a while to recharge. Take the right path up and once you have to wallrun you'll come upon a few enemies and some archers. Take care of these guys and then free the animals here. Continue on into the rocky canyon to find the fourth Checkpoint. Continue down to find the third Jizo on the ground to the right of the main path. There are a couple of ninjas here that you will have to fight, then head up into the Temple. This should unlock the achievement "Sightseeing" if you've been following the guide. Go up and talk to the Tengu to get our final recipe, then break the jars to the right to find a honeycomb. Head over to the frozen waterfall to the left and follow the river. On the right side just before it drops into another waterfall will be your fourth Jizo! Fall down the waterfall and now take the right path to fight off some spearmen. You will come to the fifth Checkpoint by the entrance to the Silent Wood. There's a big guy here, so get out Futo and have at it. There's a note from Suzume on the tree and a bit up the path you'll see some empty archer platforms and some seemingly unguarded animal cages. Walk up to the cages to trigger a lot of archers and two ninjas. Defeat these guys and set the animals free. Then continue on up the path and you will find your fifth Jizo just to the left of the path. Go forward to Grey Bear Ravine and the sixth Checkpoint to find a few guards. Continue on and you'll find a big door guarded by some spearmen. Take these guys out and then open the door. Run through and take out the archers on both sides, then run back and wait for the big red guy to follow you. Defeat him with Futo and then take out the spearmen which will probably have followed the big guy. Go through the first door and to your left under the stairs is the final Jizo for this level. Go through the second door and take out the archers here as well. Run forward to the final door and go through to get graded for the level. _______________________________________________________________________________ The Big Jump [LVL019] Spells:0 Ingredients:13 Money:28 Jizo:3 Animals:4 Let me start off by saying if you want to get the snowball achievement it is infinitely easier to do so on this level than the avalanche one. Slide or run down to the bridge and defeat the enemies rallying there. Use Shun to take out the archers, then go across the bridge hugging one of the railings. Instead of going through the main door, head to the right and you'll find an area to wall jump up. Then drop down onto the archer platform on the left and defeat them. Quickly wall run back up and over the wall and this time go to the left side. Do the same thing over here and you will have just saved yourself a big headache. Free the animal on this platform then drop down and fight the big guy with Futo. Destroy the tents then look behind them in the trees. You will find your second Jizo. Now head over to the right side. I recommend using Hiro's red orb attack to take out the groups of regular samurai, then switching to Kunoichi or Suzume to take out the spearmen. Then make the summoner's black hole back up on him and get to destroying the camp. Free the animals by where the summoner was then head up the stairs. On the left side of the path just after the second set of stairs you will find the final Jizo for this level. Go through the big door at the top of the stairs to get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Final Approach [LVL020] Spells:0 Ingredients:19 Money:0 Jizo:5 Animals:16 The first thing you should notice is the mini volcano in front of you. These will be prevalent throughout the level and will hurt you if you get too close. Your first Jizo will be next to a bush on the left side of the path leading up to the castle. Grab it, then go up and defeat the guards at the first archway. This will probably alert some more guards so kill them too then head right to take care of the archers. Free the animals across from the archers here, then go take care of the archers on the left side. Free the animals in the middle cages and the ones on the left. Then stick to the far left side of the path as you go up the slope. The samurai up here will throw barrels down at you, but the captain is too lazy to do it himself. Save at the first Checkpoint then head up the next slope. At the top of this slope you will find your second Jizo in the back corner. Hug the left wall again as you go up the next slope and take out the red samurai here. Use a smoke bomb to disappear then run behind the archer guards and use Hiro's red orb attack to take them all out. Now defeat the spearmen and go around the left side of the archway. You should see an opening with another mini volcano with your third Jizo next to it. Go through the archway tunnel and save at the second Checkpoint. Hide in one of the bushes and wait for the patrolling samurai to make their way back towards you. Then use Hiro's red orb attack to wipe them out. Then back up to the archway because it will spawn a mage and irritate the big guy. If you waited long you should only have activated the big guy to come towards you. Defeat him with Futo, which will irritate the mage. So defeat him and archers along the right wall. Free the animals back at the second Checkpoint on both sides then free the ones on the archer platform. Now go back and start activating the sliding doors one at a time. In the second one you will find the fourth Jizo. Now go behind the house you just got this one in and wall jump up to a small ledge. Face the wall and the ledge on your right will hold the final statue. Use wall run to get up there. Now drop back down and continue on. The third sliding door holds a ninja that you can fight if you want, but you're already maxed out on xp so why bother with him? Continue up the slope at the end of this area and hug the left wall again. Use Hiro's red orb attack to get rid of the red samurai quickly then use a smoke bomb to run past the spearmen and take out the archers at the top of the next level. Then defeat the spearmen and save at the third Checkpoint. Through the door you will find two archer platforms, a bunch of samurai, and a summoner. Take out the archers first as always, then the regular samurai with either Hiro or Suzume's red orb attacks then the summoner. Then free the last of the animals. Go through the archways and defeat the last big of archers and spearmen on the way to get graded. _______________________________________________________________________________ Living Castle [LVL021] Spells:0 Ingredients:0 Money:0 Jizo:8 Animals:13 Alrighty, last level before the final boss! And it was so nice of them to make it all smoky and have it shake violently every 30 seconds or so. Basically making it the most difficult environment possible to find stuff. So keep your eyes open and try to use spirit form when possible to find Jizos that are in tricky spots. Start off by climbing up onto the wooden beam that is at a diagonal in the middle of the room. Wall run up the small wooden straight part then up the yellowish piece of wall to your right. Go into the opening in the wall and to the left to wall jump up to the next area. Walk to the left then "rope walk" across the small beam to the other side. Then go up another diagonal wooden beam. Run along the left side of the wall to a small set of stairs, then across another wooden beam to the dirt mound with a lantern on it. Now go across another wooden beam and kill the two samurai here. Wall run up the broken stairs and up to the next level. Cross the wooden beam to the next area and walk towards the corner. Your camera will auto-adjust, so wall run up and grab onto the ledge then jump across and pull yourself up. Change into Kunoichi and defeat the spearmen here. To the right will be the small area we will wall jump up in a bit, but first go to the left and follow the small ledge around to the first Jizo. Now go back and wall jump up to the ledge. You'll have to shimmy across towards yourself and then jump across when you see a gap in the wall. Defeat the red samurai here then go up the wooden beam straight and then to the left. When you get to the top with a bunch of beams, turn around and go straight back and across the thin pole. When you get to the end of the house, drop down on the right to find the second Jizo and some breakable pots. Go to the small separated piece of wall on the left and wall run up the wall to the right of it to grab onto the ledge. Pull yourself up and use the wooden beams to get back to where you were. Go forward this time and you will come to a break in the rafters. Drop down and take care of the samurai here and free the animal. This will cause a couple of spearmen to come running down so defeat them too. Go up the steps and save at the first Checkpoint. Go forward and you will come to an area with molten lava beneath you. Go to the right of the beam in front of you to find a thin pole to cross to the second platform. On the left side is your third Jizo. Cross the other thin beam to the other side and wallrun up the broken staircase to the second Checkpoint. Continue on to find another broken area and the second animal cage. You will fall down into the first gap on the way to the animal, but just wallrun up using one of the boards and continue on. Once you free the animal turn around and use the beam to climb up to the dojo. Don't go inside the doors, but rather climb up the beam to your right and go to the break in the lattice to the left. Turn to your left to find the fourth Jizo. If you walk around the perimeter two ninjas will appear. Beat them up here then fall down into the dojo. Switch to Futo to beat the big guy, then Kunoichi for the spearmen. Go out the doors the spearmen were guarding and to the left. Break open the paper walls and fight the samurai that break out of the pots. Then free the animals and go back to save at the third Checkpoint. Now go to the left and wall jump up and shimmy around the railing towards the fire. Jump up when you reach the stairs and go up. Break the wall in front of you and look left to find the fifth Jizo. Fight off the samurai that are here then make your way to the stairs to trigger two ninjas. Defeat them then go up the stairs to the fourth Checkpoint. Continue up the stairs and go through the doorway with the two lit lanterns. This area can get confusing, so if you get lost just go back and start from the beginning. The first room on the left will have one samurai guard in it. Ignore him for now and break the wall to the left to find a mage and a red samurai. Take out the mage then the two samurai, then free the animals back in the corner. Now go back into the first room and go forward. There is one samurai that will attack you here. To the left is another room and there is another samurai in there. Forward from the fourth room is a wall of fire, so head back to the start and break down the right wall. This room has one samurai. Go forward to the next room and fight another samurai. Forward from the that room is another wall of fire so go left onto the other side of the broken area that we saw at the start. Make your way through the fire carefully and break the wall on your right to find the boar caged up. Free him and run away quickly back to the path. Head left and break the wall here. This is on the other side of the fire that blocked the fourth room, so go forward through the walls here to find some archers. You will be attacked by a mage that you can't really see yet, but we obviously don't want to kill the archers if he'll just respawn them. So equip an arrow potion and go right through two walls. You can't go forward because of the fire here, so skim along the forward wall and the fire to find a third wall to the right that you can break open. In the back corner of this room is your sixth Jizo. Break the paper that leads forward into the next room to find the mage, an spearman, and an animal cage. Go to the right along the wall and jump over to the spearman. Defeat both and free the animal. Jump back over to the other side and then break the wall on the left of this room, across from where the mage was. Defeat the archer then switch to Kunoichi and jump to the middle platform with the two spearmen to defeat them. Then jump across further and defeat the last archer. In the back corner of this room are the last two animal cages and your seventh Jizo. Freeing the animals will unlock your "Animal Friend" achievement. Jump back to the platform the spearmen were on and go across the thin pole towards the lantern. Go up the stairs to the right and save at the fifth Checkpoint. Go up the stairs and fight off a bunch of small samurai, followed by another big guy. Go up the big long staircase and break open the breakable wall. There will be a bunch of pots in this area with stuff in them and a dragon door at the end. Go towards the dragon door but head to the left around the side of it. Underneath one of the lights will be your final Jizo statue, which will unlock "completist" for you. When you're done breaking open jars go back to the dragon door and get ready for the final boss fight. _______________________________________________________________________________ Evil Samurai Warlord [LVL022] You're definitely going to want to equip Meteor Storm for this fight, as well as other damage-dealing Kuji Magic. My quick item menu had: Meteor Storm, Ice Storm, Lightning Storm, Sonic Boom, and healing potions. It starts off with a cutscene, as most of these do, and you'll end up in a wall-less room with a bunch of animals around. He can transform these guys into various samurai to distract you. The boss will be surrounded by some spinning balls and if you try to attack him you'll find out pretty quick that he can only be damaged by Kuji magic. So cast Meteor Storm on him and one of the balls should explode, speeding up the rotation of the remaining ones. He can also cast the ball of darkness that the mages could except it's rather hard to deflect it back at him. Just tap A until you're free. Kill off the smaller samurai to gain energy or just use flasks of Strong Ginseng. Use healing potions or sushi to heal, or if your health and ki are low use a honeycomb. See why we went through the trouble of collecting them? Use Ice Storm or shurikens on the spearmen. When he gets down to six balls, he'll rise off the ground and attempt to use various Kuji Magic spells on you. Just run away until he settles back down and then use another spell on him. As long as you keep throwing spells at him, keep your health up, and stay out of his way when he tries to use Kuji Magic, this fight shouldn't take much longer than five minutes. Congratulations! You've beaten the game! I would estimate an hour or two per level, but writing everything down takes about an hour per level. Why is the Jizo appendix in a different order than the walkthrough? Because not everyone reads the walkthrough. The walkthrough is designed to get all of the Jizos, Animals, and Enemies in every level, but the appendices are for people who have missed something and need help finding it. If something is unclear in an appendix, you can still refer to the walkthrough for a more detailed description. Why don't you list where all the money/ingredients are in the walkthrough? Because that would make the walkthrough a million times longer and more difficult to sift through for useful information. A lot of them are hidden, but you're usually going to be going that way anyway if you're following the walkthrough, so as long as you keep your eyes open and utilize your Spirit Form you should get everything. And if you don't, I have an appendix on it. Breakable barrels are a different color than the other and easy to spot. There's no achievement for getting every single ingredient, only for getting one of each, which I do outline in the walkthrough. Why do you use save points for references instead of describing the area? Describing the area takes up a lot of space and an appendices are meant for a quick reference. The save points are in plain sight and hard to miss so all you have to do is be able to count to 10. If you're really having trouble keeping track of how many you've passed in each level, use a piece of paper and make a tally mark every time you pass one in a level. As a note: save point order for the night castle assumes you take the broken stump route and meet up with the main door route. If you just take the main door, subtract 1 save point off of the ones I've listed. Do you know how to get X achievement? Short answer: Yes. Long Answer: I have all of the achievements and I will be making an achievement guide to either add on to here later or to exist as it's own guide. More likely as it's own guide. _______________________________________________________________________________ Legality [GEN005] This FAQ/Walkthrough is (c)2009 Elle G. aka "Tohyachan" This FAQ in intended for personal use only and may not be (in whole or part)reproduced, distributed, or used in any other publication, print or digital.
