You can make the lifespan of the pet 'brief' but it will take about a week, or you can get a someone from town to move in with you then kick both the dog and them out of the house by using the cellphone to 'move'. They must have an adult human to be kicked out.

This is a way I did it
1.adopt a child
2.get three birthday cakes and make your child blow them out Until their young adults then move

I used the transmogrify karma power to turn the dog or cat human, and then you can move and kick them out.

You can have it starve to death which is cruel but works. First you have to put a wall around it though.

I use the ghostify karma power on any unwanted sims & then send them to the Netherworld.

Just delete the food dish and delete the doors on your house when the dog is in there, then eventually the dog will be taken away.

Hello guys, if you want to get rid of you're (dog,cat,puppy,kitten) In Sims 3 pets xbox 360 or ps3.Then Follow these steps (WARNING: If you loved you're pets before then this will be sad so I am warning you.... BUT if you hate you're pet then this a great idea for you 
So let's begin!
1. Get you're pet to follow outside
2. Then make you're pet sit down
3. Go inside and leave you're pet ouside
4. Go to Build and Buy mode
5. Build a wall around you're pet + make no room for you're pet to walk around
6. Do not put no food,no beds, or no toys
7. The worst part of all -WAIT-
Oh if you want to speed stuff up put a cosmic curse on you're pet if you want..this is optional though.. :/

DO NOT STARVE YOUR PET IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ANOTHER
Social Services will take all of your pets away
