Yes,you do need internet and be a gold member
This way when you are playing,you can invite your friends,or set the settings so that anyone can join you on missions.
The same thing go's when you want to join other people,only you help them with there missions instead.
The money you make,you keep,the missions you still have to do on your one save.
Yes it is XBl only they decided not to make it so that you can just press start on another controller.
Xbox Live only as far as I know. You keep the cash you make and help the other player do missions and stuff. They do missions on there saves they get the credit. You have to do them on your save file in order to get credit for them. Hope I was able to help. Doubtful though.
