Question for Final Fantasy XIII

I am at the end of chapter9, and I haven't been able to even dent the old man boss- also I don't know what portals even are or how to find one

Start by taking off his left wing man he's right wing this is very hard so try to use blitz on both sides and then Joe take to off at 1 time then use olden the Edo lanes and it will heal all your people back to life if they died I use this so farand it's working pretty well but I keep dying I don't know what to do after that sorry if this doesn't help
