can you survwant to ive at the end of the game or is there a way to survive if you want to restore the wasteland.

Okay, I think you're asking about surviving the end.
In the normal game, there is no way to carry on after the end of the game.
You can survive, by getting Lyon to go in, but even then you can't play on.
If you get the add-on Broken Steel from XBL, then you can play on from the end of the mission, and help the Brotherhood mop up the remaining Enclave.

To continue your progress? On a normal game, no. Even if you survive, you can't continue.
If you get the Broken Steel Add-On through XBL or the retail version, you can continue the game two weeks after the mission "Take it Back!" takes place. Here, your decisions will impact the story (Did you send Sarah in, or did you go in yourself? Did you add the FEV to the purifier or not?) and you can continue playing from there as long as you wish.
