On missions 12-18, you play as Dante, and you have the option to play as him or Nero when you unlock Bloody Palace.

Once you beat mission 11 nero will get trapped in the savior (the statue) and form it's core. Then you get to play as dante all the way to mission 18 where you fight the savior. Then you play as nero for the last two missions. You can also play as dante in the bloody palace which is unlocked after you beat devil hunter mode
