How do you beat the brute with the hammer on the last level on legendary? I usually just go up to the top level and shoot at him and when he comes up I go down wait for him to go down then I go back to the top again. I've also tried staying on the platforms that go around but when the other brutes come I get shot off. Any advice?

Well, if you can't beat him on your feet then you need to take it slower and maybe practice kiling hunters. That will make you a better player and more experienced. That or you could just be lazy like me and fly a banshee into the place and kill him with it. Heres how that works. After the door is blown up, fly over the rubble instead of through it. Then just fly straight over the brutes in the next room to the door on the right that your supposed to go through. Then when the cut scene ends, walk backwards and look for your banshee sitting on the ground bye the entrance to that room.
His name is Tartarus, and it is difficult to beat him on Legendary. You have to just keep going at it. It does take a good 5-10 minutes to beat him. You do know how his shield goes down yes? Johnson shoots him with a beam rifle 3 times and that's when you shoot him. I would bring a beam rifle with me, because after Johnson takes down his shield, you can snipe him in the head, causing major damage! Also, duel-wield brute plasma rifles (you find them on the middle level and the top), and when the brute's shield is depleted, get close to him and fire away. In my experiance, this will keep him from recharging his shield until your weapons overheat.

Alright, first thing, I know you probably use the energy sword on him on easy but...DONT USE IT ON HIM ON LEGENDARY, you will die instantly if you do, ok, first, it is better to have a medium to long range weapon, in other words, (dont use the shotgun) use like dual needlers, or dual plasma rifles, but I use the carbine, once his sheild is down, shoot him IN THE HEAD ONLY! You will get rid of him more easily....Hope I helped, and good luck...
Use grenades when his shields are down, use strong guns like shot gun, and jump around alot.
Dont get to close to him or he will take you out straight away, find somewhere where he can't reach you like the rotating platform and shoot him from there. Or you could just hide and let johnson and the elites take him out but that would take ages.
When john blows open the doors with the scarub fly through it in the banshee (which is hard but not so bad if you fly upwards as soon as your in there)and when you get to the other doors get out the banshee to open them then and fly through. When the video comes up and finishes you will be out the banshee so just go back a bit and get in it and it makes killing tauterus easy!!!
