How to Progress Faster

In order to progress faster in WRC 9 Career mode it is recommended that you do the Manufacturer Test Runs. You will find these options and others beside the official rally events when you set the next events in the Career mode calendar. In Manufacturer Test Runs you compete in a car from another manufacturer and if you do well you will unlock a new cockpit which makes will allow you to move up to a higher category in the current season.

Another way to progess fast in WRC9 is to do the Maintenance Events where the goal is to reach a certain point on a stage in a given time without the help of a co-driver feeding you information about the course. If you are successful you will automatically repair damage to your race car.

Listen to your Co-Driver

It is important that you pay attention and listen to your co-driver as he provides essential information about the course and it's route. If you have not played a WRC game before you will not understand what he is saying. Listed below are some of the things you are likely to hear him say along with their meaning.

Keep inside
When driving through the curve, there are dangers or obstacles on the outside (steep slopes, ditches, crash barriers and similar objects).

Do not cut
There is an obstacle inside the curve, such as a rock, bales of hay or a crash barrier. If you shorten the curve, you risk crashing.

Close
The curve becomes tighter towards the end.

(Narrow) Hairpin
The tightest corners that await you in WRC 9. Here we recommend you use the handbrake, to drift around the corner.

Open up
The curve opens at it's apex; you can accelerate again earlier.

Over hilltop
The route leads over a small hill. Be careful, because you might not be able to see exactly what happens next.

Thirty to two hundred
This number at the end of the co-driver's announcement reveals that a straight line (thirty to two hundred meters long) follows the bend.

WRC 9 Tips

Play Challenge Mode First
You will find it more beneficial if you resist the temptation of hitting the track straight away in WRC 9 and instead visit Challenge mode. This feature is accessed at the Main menu and will introduce you to the basic gameplay of WRC 9 via short events.

Start in the Junior WRC Class
Once you feel you have got to grips with playing Challenge mode and are ready for Career mode you will have two classes from which to choose from. These are the WR3 which features the R5 cars which are the slowest racing cars in the World Rally Championship and the Junior WRC class which has the best beginner-friendly cars in the game and is ideal for players who are unfamiliar with WRC games. If you are the later choose the Junior WRC class and work your way up the career ladder.

WRC 9 Tips

Investing Research Points
Career mode in WRC 9 uses a research and development tree which allows you to invest the Research Points you earn from completing rallies and events into four different talent trees. It is recommended that you focus on the Reliability tree (blue, bottom right) first as this will help you minimise damage and repair times of your car. After that you can disttribute the Research Points on the talent trees that best suit your play syle. If you want to improve the acceleration of your cars you need to invest in the Performance tree (red, top left).
