Raquaza + Trophy Stand

I threw a trophy stand at Rayquaza whilst fighting him and he did not turn into a trophy csn anyone explain why?

For Bosses their health must be down to a level so that one more hit would kill them.

I think you have to damage a boss a lot for that to work. He has to be on the verge of dying.
