Ok the coins that you are talking about are coins that you get later on in the game I will tell you how to get them down

Spoiler warning

You get the coins after you beat the wheth all the sters that you can get for that point and beat the game two times and you will have to get all the purple coins on some levels now this is hard to do.

luiginumberone answered:

They're similar to the 100-coin Stars in Super Mario 64. After beating Bowser for the first time, you'll see a message that the Purple Comet has appeared. When you go to the planet it's orbiting, you'll start the level. Collect 100 purple coins to clear the level.

ChrisMaclean answered:

These are coins that you can collect to help get Power Stars and the Flying Mario Suit. You will find purple coins if you see a purple comet. They will be at every section in the game except bonus galaxies. Hope this helps you out.

darkmega11 answered:

You have to collect them after you go into the gate later in the game

Daecu answered:

These purple coins are items that you can collect that help you get Power Stars and the Flying Mario Suit. The only place to find these purple coins is in galaxies where there is a purple comet. The purple comet only stays in a galaxy temporarily, but will always come back at some time. They can and will appear in every galaxy in the game except for bonus galaxies. I hope this has helped you out.

Oyhitar answered:

Purple coins are, well, coins that are purple. In each purple coin level, you need to 100 purple coins to get the star.
