First save as much boost as possible. Sonic is running at a 90 degree angle, so you can't jump at all and quick-stepping doesn't let you dodge it's punches. After the robot does his "roar" animation, you boost for as long as possible, then he can't punch you and all you need to worry about are his lazer that are easy do dodge with quick-stepping. When you hit the springs and land on the other road, you still can't jump and he'll be right behind you again, so boost once more and quick-step to dodge his lazers. Before you know it he'll blow up hitting the ground.
