How do I get past gates and move foreward on the hoth battle chapter

If it's the level I think it is, where your walking down a hall way and the only room you can walk to is glowing red and two droids are shooting at you from above... The trick is NOT to go into that room.
Here is what you do...
You walk down that hall to the door that wont open... Their should be a statue on the left or something there.. I forget but it's something breakable. Hit it with the lightsaber and it will break and then use the "force" to rebuild it ... It will create a thing that R2D2 can unlock....
