It reduces over a long period of time. I saw mine go down from a 6 to a 4 before I PKed another player and got an 8. I'm not sure exactly how it works but I think it has something to do with in game days like for example if you have a 5 it takes 5 days to go down to a 4 and 4 days to go to a 3. My best advice is stay in your hearth with plenty of food and water till it goes down or stay outta site from other players. Store away anything you don't wanna lose before going out and use your hearth stone to teleport to avoid people following you for revenge trying to find your hearth. Best of luck to you
