Even with the best weapons equipped, you will still be vulnerable to damage and can be swarmed by enemies with enough firepower to drain your health. The best way to avoid this from happening is to take cover whenever you can. When you are behind cover you will be able to deal damage without receiving damage, this is providing you are crouching behind a waist-high structure that you can hold up your gun and shoot over. This will however reduce your accuracy and after a period of time your enemies will adapt to your cover and start shooting seeker projectiles or leap up close to deal melee damage. Keep in mind, enemies also benefit from the same protection when they take their own cover.
