You can get mixed grain, when your animal is hungry and you have no mixed grain: Simply click on the GRAIN ICON above your animals head. A window will open up and you can purchase mixed grain with diamonds.
You can buy grain mix with sand dollars in the spinning wheel game, if you have sand dollars
You can also dig up rocks and other grass area's on your farm, island thing and get some grain from there as well... But it's not much at all.
If you find a treasure chest and open it, it might have grain mix, jack plains and splitting maul.
