How to Get Free Ships in Starfield

This How to Get Free Ships guide will tell you how you can acquire five ships in Starfield at no cost. What you do with these vessels when you obtain them is entirely up to you. Whether you want to use them to search the galaxy or cash in on them the choice is yours.

How to get the Star Eagle

The Star Eagle is the first free ship you are able to obtain and it is acquired through the 'Three Star Rangers' questline. Although not a great vessel it is still an improvement over your initial ship, the Frontier. If you don't decide to sell it you can always use it as a base for customizing with weapons and armor.

Star Eagle

Requirement:

  • Locate the questline for the Three Star Rangers on the planet Akila.
  • Upon arriving on Aquila, head to the front gate where you'll stumble upon a bank heist.
  • Assist the leader of the Three Star Rangers by either persuading the bank robbers to surrender peacefully or eliminating them.

How to get the Razorleaf

The Razorleaf is a legendary ship that once belonged to a feared figure named the Mantis. It is faster and lighter than The Frontier and has better weaponry. It also comes with a shielded cargo hold for smuggling contraband and an intimidation factor that can send space pirates fleeing upon sight.

Razorleaf

Requirement:

  • Look for a note that randomly drops from space enemies on the Nova Galactic Staryard.
  • Interact with the note to reveal the location of the secret base.
  • Land at the secret base and complete a 10-minute quest to eliminate human and robot enemies, securing both the legendary armor and the Razorleaf ship.

Wanderwell

To acquire the Wanderwell as an in-game gift you need to have chosen the Kid Stuff Trait during character creation. The ship is valued at 89,197 credits and although it may require sending money back home regularly, the ship's value far exceeds the expenses. You will eventually acquire it in one of your visits, a conversation will begin where your father will mention that he won a ship at a card game. He will give you the ship, the Wanderwell, for free, and you will be able to access it at any ship technician. The Wanderwell has an expansive cargo hold, strong shields, and ample fuel.

Requirement:

  • Complete side quests in the New Atlantis and nearby star systems.
  • After completing these quests, you will receive a notification saying, 'Dad wants to talk with you'.
  • After this, you will acquire the Wanderwell for free.

Kepler R

The Kepler R ship is a reward from the 'Over Designed' side quest, which you can start at The Lodge found in New Atlantis. The Kepler R has the ability to get across multiple systems quickly. It is able to carry a significant amount of cargo with enough room for six crew members, safeguarding them with its protective shields.

Kepler R

Requirement:

  • Progress through the main story until you reach the 11th mission, 'High Price to Pay'.
  • After completing this mission, engage in the 'Over Designed' questline.
  • To secure the Kepler R, choose a larger budget, pass persuasion checks, positively reinforce group ideas, and opt for team building with positive motivational responses.

UC Prison Shuttle

Successfully completing the Crimson Fleet Questline will enable you to claim the UC Prison Shuttle. It will involve having to commit a crime on New Atlantis and getting caught in order to get imprisoned. Although the UC Prison Shuttle isn't a top-tier ship it's still an additional ship you can get for free.

Requirement:

  • Commit a crime on New Atlantis and get caught, leading to your imprisonment.
  • Meet a military officer in jail who will task you with infiltrating the Crimson Fleet.
  • Complete the Crimson Fleet questline until you reach 'The Echoes of the Past' mission, during which you will escape in the UC Prison Shuttle.
