How to Build an Outpost in Starfield

• Before Building the Outpost

  Outposts in Starfield are an important feature and it is essential that you get to grips on how to build one. Outposts are bases you can construct on any planet you land on. The ability to build an Outpost though is not automatic, the first you will need to do is open your Scanner and see what resources the planet you are on has that need to be discovered. Once you have discovered each of these resources you will then be able to start building an Outpost.


• Building the Outpost

  Once you have found all the indicated resources the button prompt at the bottom of your screen to build Outposts will become white. Press the button to go into 'Modify Mode' where you will see all the available resources you can mine on the planet, provided you have access to a vein of that resource. As long as it does not interfere with another object in the area you can place your Outpost anywhere on the planet. You just need to place an Outpost Beacon, which will designate the area as a base that you can begin building on.


• Create Extractors

  You will be able to create Extactors for your Outpost once you have established it. Extractors will automatically mine resources, create transfer containers that will enable you to collect resources from your ship, and build entire hubs. These hubs can then have crew members stationed at them, along with cooking stations, workbenches, and research labs. In order to build an Extractor you will require Nickel, Copper, and Aluminium. Having Extractors at your Outposts is a big time saver, especially if you have multiple Outposts to harvest the different resources of each planet. The resources you farm will come in useful when you decide to expand your Outpost even further, customize your ship, or upgrade equipment.

• Power Generators, Habs, and Landing Pads

  Your Outposts will need electricity to function which means they will need power generators like wind turbines and solar panels. The most important structure in Outpost are Habs as they are facilities that can be used to grow things like plants and do research projects. It is also essential that you construct a landing pad as doing so will make it significantly easier to touch base on the planet to gather the resources you have mined.
