Sonic is by far one of my favourite game characters, and this game is brilliant. It hasn't drifted far from the old Megadrive games, which makes it very enjoyable, the first zone being based on the Green Hill Zone and Casino Paradise Zone being based on the Spring Yard Zone.
Although they look a little like something from MS paint if you look at the characters closely, the nice cartoony looks of the characters just look so cool, and they're more animated than any of the old Megadrive games, making the levels full of life.
One of the best bits about Sonic Advance is the sound. Some of the final songs are incredibly cool, and the tiny chao garden song is great. The sound effects are good, too. They sound incredibly clear out of the bad sound quality of the GBA. The Tiny Chao Garden sounds get slightly irratating, though. If it wasn't for that, this section would get a 10 out of 10.
Sometimes, I think Sonic is slower than he should be, but that doesn't stop this game being great, but it's so darn frustrating when I'm trying to make Sonic jump from platform to platform with great precision, and then I accidentally make Sonic back-flip, he goes the opposite way, then he falls to his death. I don't understand what button combination I'm doing here, but I'm sure it doesn't say what it is in the manuel.
Completing one story is a bit quick, but it takes me ages to complete the other 3 stories, but hidden in each zone is a special spring, which you have to jump on to go to the special stage, where you have a chance to get a chaos emerald. Once you've sussed it, getting the first 6 emeralds is a piece of cake, however, to this day, I still haven't got the final seventh emerald, but I've played the boss you unlock by getting all seven chaos emeralds at a friends house, it's easy.
This game is one of the best portable adventures you'll ever see since Super Mario Advance 2. Despite the Mario Advance games being in direct competition with the Sonic Advance games, this game will rule your GBA for months. Don't let it's downfalls defeat you. Sonic Advance is one of the best portable adventures you'll ever see.
