Runescape. A game that has been around for a few years. How has it lasted? The people who play it, likeit so much, tell their friends, they like it, they tell their friends etc. So, it's a popular game. But what makes it so good? Well, I have to say, the review below, will tell you my opinion of the game, and hopefully get you to play it, tell your friends and get Runescpae spread around your school.
But what is Runescape all about I hear you say. It's a MMORPG that ranges from cooking sharks, to casting spells. With updates coming in every week, this is an awesome game. Although there are a few mishaps, like sometimes having to clcik many times to do something, and having lag or having to try and buy things when bots are taking them all at the price you want them, it is a wonderful game.
The graphics could be better, but considering the amount of players and how big the game is, it's the best they could probably do. People suggest that the graphics compnay of World of Warcraft should take over Runescape. But what good would that bring. Yes, the graphics would improve, but then it wont be as fun. Although this brings a more cartoony look to the game, some of the things have great detail, which makes the experience even more thrilling. That is why I am giving the graphics a 8/10.
MUSIC
The sound in the game varies to the position you are in. Although free players only get limited sound, it is good stuff. Members get much more sound, and it has been more developed than the free ones. Just becoming a member for a month can help you unlock 50 more sounds to listen to. But better yet, all the sounds you have unlocked can be listened to whenever. So, if a free player had become a member, and unlocked a nice sound he liked, he could listen to it when he wasn't a member. I would give the music a 9/10.
OTHER SOUND
The other sounds in the game are skill based sounds. These can sometimes be annoying as, when you are mining and the music has stopped all you can hear is tick, tick, tick. This is why I personally turn off the other sounds when playing Runescape 2, as they annoy me. Fishing sounds, you hear the ocean rushing past (quite conforting), and then you hear, splash, bob, bob, bob. So, this is why I am giving other sounds 4/10.
This adds up to 12/20 which is 6/10.
What can I say about the gameplay. Well, firstly I'll start with non-members.
FREE GAMEPLAY
With many skills to train, I never got bored of the free gameplay, which is why I was just a member for 3 months. Though after a whil, you may get good at the skills, and start hauling in the cash, but have nothing to buy. Well that's where worlds 1,3,4 and 5 come in. Head there with your cash, and head to Varrock west bank. Around there you will find people selling runes, arrows, trimmed armour (very smart, makes you look rich), weapons, potions, food and many more. But also now, if you want to buy something, and don't want to leave the world your in, head to the new Grand Ezchange, where you can search for an item and buy it from any world, or sell and item and wait for someone to buy it. With a third of the Runescape world to explore, you shouldn't get bored quickly, but with the removal of Player Killing in the Wilderness, being a pure may be a let down. But with PKing gone, in comes Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars. Bounty Hunter takes up the middle of the Wilderness inside a volcano. The aim is, you get given a person who is in the volcano, and you have to kill them. The problem is, there may be multiple people assigned to klill you, and there are always rogues. The rogues there are people, who kill anyone they see. That is bad news, considering that it shows your wealth above you head. So for free gameplay I would give a 10/10.
MEMBER GAMEPLAY
This is much better than free gameplay, as for one you get access to many more quests, and about 8 more skills. With updates coming out for members every week almost, you can have so much fun on this game when you pay. With all of the Runescape world to explore, and many people to meet and lay minigames with, I would reccommend paying the 3.20 a month by credit card, and become a member. With all the free features and much more, including new items that aren't accesible for free players, you will have bundles of fun. A 10/10 here.
So that leaves us with a perfect score for Gameplay.
This game can last for ever if you really enjoy it. But with the new updates Jagex have brought out, people are canceling membership and quitting. For some people who make a profit off law runing, they cannot do this anymore, because of the new trade system. But, if you can manage to get around the downers of this game, you will have fun and a enjoyable experience. So I give this a 9/10.
Overall, payiing 3.20/$5 a month isn't bad for what you get. Considering the cost for World of Warcraft (9 a month)its a fair price. I would say, play this game, or you will be missing out on a wonderful piece of gaming.
So I would give this game, overall a 8/10.
