Root Film is a murder mystery visual novel game that is the second entry in the Kadokawa Mystery Game Series. Set in the real-life Shimane prefecture in Japan the story follows Rintaro, an aspiring but poor film-director, and Riho, an up and coming actress who are excited about potential breakthrough roles when a TV series called 'Shimane Mystery Drama Project' has been green lit. However, a real life murder mysteriously occurs on the set very early on in the process and puts things to a halt, and the two, along with various other crew involved try to find out what happened. Check Yagumo's Emai First
Make heading to Yagumo's studio and checking his email the first thing you do when you take control of the character. On his computer will be three emails, the first is from a scammer Yagumo has had frequent contact with, the second is spam, and the third tells you that Yagumo's sister Sakuya is coming to Shimane Prefecture. If you go to the reception after you have gone through the emails you will recieve an important phone call.
Exaimine Everything Multiple Times
Root Film is an adventure game where it is essential that you interact with the 'hotspots' on the screen at every opportunity. Don't be hesitant to check everything multiple times as there will often be instances where details won't become clear until you've had a second glance.
Return to Yagumo's Studio
Return to Yagumo's Studio whenever you are not sure what you should be doing next in Root Film and have a look to see if you can pull out any information from the footage Kanade has shot. When you do this you need to make good use of Magari's editing skills to try and pick out bits of information that you previously missed which will help you figure out what to do next.
Mystery Man Quiz
There is a good possibility if you care thoroughly exploring Shimane that you will encounter the 'Mystery Man'. This is an NPC in Root Film that will begin quizzing you on your knowledge of Shimane while ignoring any questions you may have for him. The questions the mystery man asks you are based on real-life facts so if you are not sure of the answer you can simply find it by going online and doing some research. Make sure you save your game when the mystery man appears, so you are able to reload it if you give the wrong answer.
Get Unexpected Clues
Resist the temptation to just follow the narrative of Root Film and go to the choice of destination that is relevant each time. Don't be afraid to visit places that are not directly connected to the case as there will be instances where you will have chance encounters with new characters that will uncover unexpected clues that will help you.
Only Present Evidence that is Logical
It is important that during the 'Max Mode' Interrogations in Root Film when you are given the option of several phrases that Yagumo has memorized using his Synaesthesia ability that you make sure that the one you select is the one that is relevant to what the witness you are interrogating has just said. If the phrase you select does not make logical sense it may become relevant later in the case.
