gnome cheat not working

I can't seem to get the gnome cheat to work, do you need to pause the game? Coz it doesnt say.

No,you just need to follow the gnome cheat then after that you will hear a sound that "ting". I made it in first beach and I see it. It looks like a gnome pirate. not a garden gnome.
