I recommend you try using a set like khezu or kirin armor itself to go against the lightning damage itself. Also you might want to switch up on your skills since earplugs aren't necessary, I tend to go for sharpening jewels to get sharpening done and out of the way but some expert jewels for affinity always help. As far as the horn I always follow one rule, use a hammer when horn huning and smash that suckers head to pieces.
