How do you defeat the Yuin Kut-Ku on the 2* missions from the village chief?

Pitfall traps (net (ivy & spiderweb) and trap tool) you can use barrel bombs but it's more effective to just attack it's head and if you're using a gs make the silverfang serpent blade (u can get the med monster bones from acepros (carving near the back leg seemed to help me get more med monster bones)in the desert or volcano zones in the guild quests just make sure you bring cool drinks)

Take along these items with you, they will render the kut ku nearly helpless, so you can attack it freely. flash bombs (flash bugs and bomb material (bring 5 flash bombs, then another 10 of flash bugs and 10 bomb materials to combine more))

Pitfall trap (net and trap tool (net: spider web and ivy (also bring along another 2 nets and 2 trap tools, so you can make a total of three pitfall traps)))

Large barrel bombs: blow them up on the kut ku when it is stuck in the pitfall trap

Small barrel bombs: useful for blowing up the large barrel bombs on the kut ku, but can also be made to put the kut ku into a daze for a short period of time (will make kut ku go into rage mode though, so use sparingly)

I don't know what weapon you are using but, use something like viper bite/hydra bite (made from hunters knife -> serpent bite)

Armour, anything that has armour value of 10 on each peice. And I find using protection peircing is useful when you have an SnS because it will automatically block for you if you get hit unexpectanly.
