Purchase the wirecutter and wrench as soon as you are able to. The wrench can be used to open grate covers and pull plaques off of walls throughout the city for extra cash and the wirecutter comes in useful for cutting chains.

Make sure your quiver is equipped with plenty of rope arrows as these will be needed at specific locations in missions to proceed. You can always find them in the field if you don't have any but it will save you time if you start the mission with a full quiver.

Between the second and third chapters you will find a merchant located northeast of the Clocktower in the area marked 'Tavern: The Crippled Burrick'. This merchant will be standing alone outside and he will be your primary source for upgrades and refilling your inventory. He sells 'Resources' such as different types of arrows and Focus-restoring poppies and also offers items in the 'Tools & Upgrades' and 'Trinkets' categories.

Take the opportunity to explore when the game gives you the option to freely move about the City. Use the Focus ability to search for things you can interact with such as windows and doors that you can pry open. Things you can intteract with will be highlighted in blue.

Make sure while you are lurking in the shadows you stay silent, even when you are completely hidden you will betray your prescence if you make a noise. Remember that the faster you move the more noise you will create. The best tactic to get about quietly without being seen is to crouch in the shadows and sneak very slowly.
