Version History..............................................10.00.00 * ******************************************************************************* I. Introduction 01.00.00 The purpose of this guide is to help our readers discover the optimum builds for their characters in the game Dragon Age: Origins. For the most part, the builds are geared towards group play. However most of them will do fine in solo or duo play. We have chosen to focus on not only the most popular builds, but also the most effective. The 2 most noticeable builds we have left out are Warrior Archer and Warrior Dual-Wielders. We have decided to leave these builds out because Rogues filling those 2 roles just plain do it better. When Awakenings releases, if these builds are a better build we may decide to add them to the guide. For the time being you will have to suffice with these 8 builds. ******************************************************************************* II. Recognition 02.00.00 I would like to give special thanks to Ripstrawberry, who helped me compile the vast majority of the information in this guide. Thanks should also go out to Tonberry who helped in the early stages of this guide before losing himself in Dissidia. I would also like to thank my wife for putting up with me while I wrote this guide. ******************************************************************************* III. Mages 07.00.00 Mages are, quite obviously, the master of magic. The great thing about mages in Dragon Age: Origins is that they can fill many roles. This guide will focus on 2 specific mage builds, the spell-flinger and the shapeshifter. The spell- flinger is your traditional mage with lots of spells at their disposal they can lock down and debuff enemy mobs, buff your party, heal, and do some decent damage. Shapeshifters are a slightly different breed of mage that use their spells to debuff the mobs then shift into an animal form and join in melee combat. ******************************************************************************* Mage Spell-flinger Build 07.10.00 Origin 07.10.01 ****** Elven mages make the best spell-flingers since they start out with the highest Magic stat. Stats 07.10.02 ***** Spell-flinger mages should put every stat point into their Magic stat. Anything else is a waste of stat points. Stats 07.20.02 ***** Shapeshifters should put their attribute points into Maguc until they get it to 31 (before the bonuses from the Fade) and then put the rest of their points into Strength. Skills 07.20.03 ****** Starts with: Herbalism, Combat Tactics (1) Character Creation: Combat Training (1) Level 3: Combat Training (2) Level 6: Trap Making (1) Level 9: Combat Training (3) Level 12: Combat Training (4) Level 15: Stealing (1) Level 18: Survival (1) Level 21: Survival (2) Level 24: Survival (3) Spells 07.20.04 ****** Starts with: Arcane Bolt Character Creation: Mind Blast, Force Field Level 2: Disorient Level 3: Horror Level 4: Sleep Level 5: Telekinetic Weapons Joining Bonus: Crushing Prison Level 6: Arcane Shield Level 7: Group Heal Tome 1: Staff Focus Level 8: Mana Drain Tome 2: Revival Level 9: Mana Cleanse Level 10: Spell Might Tome 3: Arcane Mastery Level 11: Mana Clash Level 12: Waking Nightmare Level 13: Lifeward Level 14: Spider Shape Healing the Arl: Bear Shape Tome 4: Flying Swarm Tome 5: Master Shapeshifter Level 15: Glyph of Paralysis Level 16: Glyph of Warding Level 17: Glyph of Repulsion Level 18: Glyph of Neutralization Level 19: Vulnerability Hex Level 20: Affliction Hex Level 21: Misdirection Hex Level 22: Rock Armor Level 23: Stonefist Level 24: Heroic Offense Landsmeet: Heroic Aura Level 25: Heroic Defense Specializations 07.20.05 *************** The recommended specializations for this build are Spirit Healer at level 7 and Shapeshifter at level 14. Rogues 08.00.00 Rogues are the masters of physical damage and trickery. Whether attacking from range with a bow and arrows, getting in their licks from melee range with daggers, or scouting the field in stealth, no party seems to be complete without a rogue. ******************************************************************************* Rogue Sniper Build 08.10.00 Origin 08.10.01 ****** Human nobles make the best snipers. Stats 08.10.02 ***** Snipers focus on 2 attributes, Dexterity and Cunning. Snipers need a certain amount of Dexterity to wield their weapons and obtain the highest tier of archery talents. Cunning is the attribute that determines damage. Snipers should put their points into Dexterty until they have 26 (before the Fade bonuses) and then put the rest of their points into Cunning. It is worth mentioning that if you do create a Human Noble Sniper you should put 3 of your points at character creation into Cunning so you will be able to open every chest in your origin story. After this put your points into Dexterity up to 26 as mentioned earlier. Skills 08.10.03 ****** Starts with: Poison Making (1), Combat Training (1), Combat Training (2) Character Creation: Combat Training (3) Level 2: Combat Training (4) Level 4: Coercion (1) Level 6: Trap Making (1) Level 8: Coercion (2) Level 10: Stealing (1) Level 12: Survival (1) Level 14: Survival (2) Healing the Arl: Survival (3) Level 16: Survival (4) Level 18: Coercion (3) Level 20: Coercion (4) Level 22: Herbalism (1) Level 24: Herbalism (2) Talents 08.10.04 ******* Starts with: Dirty Fighting Character Creation: Melee Archer, Rapid Shot Level 2: Shattering Shot Level 3: Pinning Shot Level 4: Suppressing fire Level 5: Below the Belt Joining Bonus: Deft Hands Level 6: Deadly Strike Level 7: Summon Wolf Level 8: Lethality Level 9: Summon Bear Level 10: Summon Spider Level 11: Scattershot Level 12: Master Ranger Level 13: Aim Level 14: Song of Valor Tome 1: Distraction Tome 2: Song of Courage Level 15: Defensive Fire Tome 3: Master Archer Level 16: Crippling Shot Level 17: Critical Shot Level 18: Arrow of Slaying Level 19: Combat Movement Level 20: Stealth 1 Level 21: Stealth 2 Level 22: Stealth 3 Level 23: Stealth 4 Landsmeet: Captivating Song Tome 4: Improved Tools Level 24: Mechanical Expertise Level 25: Device Mastery Specializations 08.10.05 *************** The recommended specializations for this build are Ranger at level 7 and Bard at level 14. Stats 08.20.02 ***** Backstabbers focus on 2 attributes, Dexterity and Cunning. Backstabbers need a certain amount of Dexterity to wield their weapons and obtain the highest tier of dual-wield talents. Cunning is the attribute that determines damage. Snipers should put their points into Dexterty until they have 20 (before the Fade bonuses) and then put the rest of their points into Cunning. You can learn the Bard specialization from Leliana after getting her approval up just a little bit. By talking to her in your first party camp after Lothering you should have her approval more than high enough to get her to teach you to be a Bard.
