Well, you get more XP by playing more games and winning. The higher ranking you come in the game, the more XP you get. It also depends if you win or loose and even the type on match makes a difference. If your XP to next level is 0, then you got the highest promotion. The highest promotion is shown with this sign

Ha. You get exp by entering matches. It all depends on your skill of combat. Better you are, more exp you get.
