In Dark Cloud, there is fun little side-game called fishing. Once you get the fishing rod, a fishing spot, and some bait you can fish. By catching fish you earn FP(Fishing Points) that can be exchanged for prizes. While this may sound simple, it's actually pretty challenging and fun! Read the next two sections to help you get the things you need to start fishing and learn how to fish. After that, check out the other sections of the guide to find out what fish you can catch and how, and when, you can catch them. Thanks for checking out my guide and enjoy!! ======================================================================= B.2 Getting What You Need | ======================================================================= ************************************* * * * B.2.1 Obtaining The Fishing Rod * * * ************************************* The fishing rod is easy to obtain. All you have to do is find all the Atla necessary for rebuilding Alnet's House and complete it. Here's a list of the Atla pieces you'll need: Alnet's House Alnet Cabin Carl Lamp Llama Stairway Once you have gathered all the necessary Atla, open the Georama menu. Connect all the pieces then place the house. Go inside the house and Alnet will give you the fishing rod. Yay! ************************************* * * * B.2.2 The First Fishing Spot * * * ************************************* This one is even easier to obtain then the fishing rod. Once you find the Atla piece Pond open the Georama menu and place it. That's it! For more info on this fishing spot and the other spots, see section "D.4 Fishing Spots". ************************************* * * * B.2.3 What To Use As Bait * * * ************************************* Now that you've gotten everything, now it's time to get some bait to fish with. Well, there are a number of ways to collect bait; Treasure chests, defeating or stealing from enemies, and buying it from a shop. you've most likelyalready gotten some fishing bait already, such as Mimi, Prickly, Potato Cake, Carrot, Poisonus Apple etc. Any of them can be used to catch fish (Though the Poisonous Apple and Carrot wont come in handy until you reach Matataki Village). For more info on what all can be used as bait, see section "E.5 Bait List". ======================================================================= C.3 Learning To Fish | ======================================================================= FISHING CONTROLS: x - Cast and hook fish O - Quit Fishing Square - Choose Bait Start - Pause GOING FISHING: Once you have a everything you need, you can start fishing. Go to a fishing spot and look for a sign with a fish on it. While standing in front of it press X and a list with a few options will appear. The first one let's you fish, the second one let's you exchange the fishing points you have earned for prizes, the third one let's you see the twenty biggest fish you've caught, and the last one exits out of it. CHOOSING BAIT AND CASTING OUT: Press the square button to open your pockets and select what bait you wish to use. I don't recommend Carrots or Poisonous Apples because only certain fish will bite those. I wuold also recommend saving any potato cakes you have for later. Now that you've selected your bait stand in front of the water and press X to cast your line. My advice is to look around for some fish and then cast out. That way you don't have to wait for a fish to get close to your hook. Oh yeah, you cant decide how far to cast your line. I know it sucks but you gotta deal with it. REELING IN: Once a fish gets interested in your hook it will start nibble and play around with it. The key to it is to press X right when the bobber sinks down into the water completely. If you do it just right you'll hook the fish and he'll pull it in. WHAT TO DO NOW: When you catch a fish you'll see his name, how big he is, and how much fishing points you got from him. Unfortunately, when you catch a fish he let's it go but you get to keep the points you earned and you can exchange them for prizes when you select FP Exchange from the fishing sign menu. For a list of all the prizes, see section "G.7 FP Exchange List". ======================================================================= D.4 Fishing Spots | ======================================================================= There are a total of five fishing spots in this game. This section is meant to tell you how to get access to each one, what fish you can catch at each one, what bait you should use, and an overall breakdown of each of them. ************************************* * * * D.4.1 Norune Village * * * ************************************* ========================= Norune Pond | ========================= HOW TO GET IT: Find the Atla containing the Pond in the Divine Beast Cave, then place the pond anywhere in the village. FISH YOU CAN CATCH: Gobbler, Gummy, Niler, Nonky. RECOMMENDED BAIT: Prickly, Mimi, Minon, Battan. DESCRIPTION: An okay fishing spot. It's the first one you get so of course it's not going to be the best, but it's so small so it makes it hard to focus only on one fish. The fish aren't really anything to brag about either. The best fish is easily the Niler, but the rest of the fish don't give many fishing points. I wouldn't fish here unless your learning how to fish. ************************************* * * * D.4.2 Matataki Village * * * ************************************* ========================= Waterfall | ========================= HOW TO GET IT: It's already available, just head over to the waterfall. FISH YOU CAN CATCH: Baku Baku, Baron Garayan, Gummy, Mardan Garayan, Nonky. RECOMMENDED BAIT: Battan, Mimi, Minon, Poisonous Apple(for the Mardans), Potato Cake(for the Barons). DESCRIPTION: This one is better than the one in Norune but only for one reason; Mar- dan Garayan and Baron Garayan!! These are two very rare fish and they can only be caught here, and in Muska Lacka. Mardan Garayans can only be caught with and Baron Garayans with Potato Cakes. They are well worth it too! The Mardans are usually worth around or over 200 points, and Baron Garayans which are usually worth around 500 to 900 points!! Other than that, the fish are less then spectacular. We've seen the Gummies and Nonkies before, and the Baku Bakus aren't that great at all. The Water- fall is also too big, and you cant normally reach the areas where the fish are. If you are going to fish here, throw in some bomb nuts and if the fish is attracted to it, reel it back out. If they are not, it's most likely a Mardan or Baron. You should already be able to tell the Barons apart because they're so big. ========================= Peanut Pond | ========================= HOW TO GET IT: Finish connecting the river from the Waterfall to where Treant is lo- cated at to make the river flow again. Then the pond will have water again. FISH YOU CAN CATCH: Baku Baku, Gobbler, Gummy, Tarton, Umadakara. RECOMMENDED BAIT: Carrot(for the Umadakaras), Battan, Mimi, Potato Cake(for the Tar- tons). DESCRIPTION: It's a pretty good spot. You get to fish for Tartons which are worth a good amount ]of points, and Umadakaras which is the next best fish to the Garayans. It's not too big or too small and the area is open enough to let you go all the way around it. The trick to this fishing spot is to only use Carrots and Potato Cakes. The only fish that will bite the Carrot in the game is the Umadakara, and the only fish that will bite the Potato Cake here at Peanut Pond is the Tarton, so it's a sure thing! Also, if you wanna fish for the other fish use a Battan or a Mimi and you'll hook 'em almost everytime! Plus, there's still a chance it'll be a Tarton. Great place, ya!? ************************************* * * * D.4.3 Queen * * * ************************************* ========================= Queen's Docks | ========================= HOW TO GET IT: It's already available when you get there, just head to the port. FISH YOU CAN CATCH: Bobo, Bon, Hamma Hamma, Kaji, Piccolly. RECOMMENDED BAIT: Evy, Petite Fish. DESCRIPTION: The fishing will be a little different because you can't see the fish here. So your gonna have to just throw it in there a wait for them to bite. Keep in mind that it can take awhile sometimes, and I wouldn't recommend fishing at night because I have yet to catch anything here at that time. As for the fish here, they're pretty good I guess. The Hamma Hamma and Kaji are worth it but the rest are not that good. Recommend using Petite Fish instead of Evies to make sure you'll catch the good ones only. ************************************* * * * D.4.4 Muska Lacka * * * ************************************* ========================= Oasis | ========================= HOW TO GET IT: Find the Atla containing it in the Sun & Moon Shrine, then place the Oasis anywhere in Muska Lacka. It does need three trees to complete it, but you dont need them to be able to fish. FISH YOU CAN CATCH: Baron Garayan, Den, Heela, Mardan Garayan, Negie. RECOMMENDED BAIT: Battan, Mimi, Minon, Poisonous Apple(for the Mardans), Potato Cake(for the Barons). DESCRIPTION: This is a pretty good fishing spot, and it's my favorite. Not only can catch MArdans and Barons here, but they appear more frequently. And don't listen to those people who say you can only catch them at Dusk. While I have only caught the Baron Garayans at Dusk or Night, I have caught several Mardans at Night and Morning. This spotis about as big Peanut Pond, and the only thing that should make you a little frustra- ted is the shrubs that block your way on the right side making you have to go all the way around. The good news about this spot is there will always be four fish out there and you can see them right at the start everytime you fish. And not only are the Garayans good fish to catch, but the Den and Heela are worth a pretty decent amount of points too. Usually over 20 FP. ======================================================================= E.5 Bait List | ======================================================================= Thirteen types of bait are available and they each catch certain types of fish. This list is meant to tell you exactly what kind of fish each bait catches, a description of how well it catches and it's purpose other then fishing, and where you can find it at. If I say steal it from another enemy, you'll need a weapon with the 'Steal' ability. The earliest weapon your likely to find with the steal ability is Xiao's Bandit Slingshot. If I say it can be found in treasure chests, I mean any chests(Inside a dungeon or outside in a village, town etc.). NOTE: I need help on what each fish bait catches, so if you know of any other fish you can catch with them that isn't here, please send them to me. You'll get full credit and it'll be greatly appreciated! Email address is provided at the end of the FAQ. ========================= Battan | ========================= DESCRIPTION: A fishing bait that looks like a grashopper and catches fish extremely well. These fish are the Umadakara, Mardan Garayan, and Baron Garayan. This section is dedicated solely to thiese fish and they are well worth the effort it takes to catch them(especially the Garayans), so I recommend reading this fully and trying your hand at catching them. UMADAKARA: The Umadakara is worth the least amount of points of the three, but is still great considering the fact it's normally worth over 00 fishing points. It can be found in the Peaunt Pond in Matataki Village and can only be caught using Carrots. I've only encountered it during the morning and afternoon time, and it could possibly be the easiest to catch out of three, making it well worth going after. While I normal- ly recommend going after the Garayans instead, this fish can be well worth it considering you can always use Potato Cakes to catch some Tartons while trying to catch it too, which also give a decent amount of points. Since Umadakaras are the only fish who bite Carrots, and Tartons are the only ones here who will bite Potato Cakes, you could rack in a good amount of points! MARDAN GARAYAN: A purple-feminine looking fish that can be caught at the Waterfall in Matataki and the Oasis in Muska Lacka by using Poisonous Apples. I've caught them frequently at morning and dusk, and also at night. They appear more often in the Oasis then they do at the Waterfall, and are usally worth around 200-300 points. If you catch one there will be a new sword available for 2500 FP for called Mardan Eins. Once you've got the sword, you'll be able to upgrade the sword into Mardan Twei by catching 10 more Mardans, and then into Arise Mardan by catching 15 more after that. Also after catching a Mardan Garayan if you try to unlock a locked trasure chest by choosing to guess what trap is set, Mardan will appear on the correct answer. BARON GARAYAN: The Baron Garayan is an enormous fish that appears at the Waterfall in Matataki and the Oasis in Muska Lacka. It can be found in the dusk and night, and can only be caught using a Potato Cake. It's normally worth over 500 points! Making it the best fish in the game. It's easy to tell it from the other fish becauseit's so big and can easily be as big as Toan. The trouble your gonna have with it, is the fact that it can only be caught with Potaton Cakes, and since other fish are attracted by them, making hard to tell if the fish you are catching is one or not. You should fish for them at the Oasis because I have hardly ever found them at the Waterfall. The main thing to remember when going after them is if your fishing for it at the Oasis, there is a chance it could be a Den instead. But still, if you see a really big fish take your chance and catch it. ======================================================================= I.9 Copyright, Contact Info & Thanks | ======================================================================= This FAQ is copyright 2011, by Joseph Rogers, and this FAQ, or any part of it cannot be distributed or sold under any circumstances without my permission.
