The point of finding FBI agents is to end Mob Wars that you get into with the other three families (Tattaglia, Barzini, and Cuneo). You can also end them by blowing up the property of whichever family you are at war with. For example, if you are at war with the Tattaglia's, and you are close to a property that they own (just as an example, a bakery), you can set a bomb in the middle of the bakery, and when it blows, it will tell you that you have won a war against the Tattaglia's. With an FBI agent, you have to give him money so that he will pay attention to the other three families, and not the Corleones.
