Question for Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

One of my friends said that to unlock the purple portal in Outworld, I should throw an enemy into both 2 of them.

I did that, yet nothing happened. Whats the point of it being there? Is there any other way to get this purple portal?

Ok I found out the question myself. First I need to finish some Smoke Missions then I throw people in the portal.

Yoi can't unlock the purple portal because it is used for the smoke missions and to kill the enemies.
