Question for Legaia 2: Dual Saga

In the room under the castle, while going to get the Bavarian pass, there is a room with a picture of a bird.

It has twelve pedestals going in a circle like a clock, with the one at twelve o'clock lit, and the one at 4 o'clock lit.

The clue for the room is: Starting at the north, 8 right, 4 left. 3 right, 4 left. Then from the other, 4 right, 7 left. 16 right, 5 left.

When I do this in almost any order, I run across a pedestal that is already lit.

I have tried many combinations of lighting the pedestals, but, I am getting nowhere.

Does anyone know exactly how to get the door open???
