That's an extremely rare glitch, I haven't encountered it myself but have friends report the same situation. If it was on PS3 or an emulator on the PC I would suggest reinstalling the game without deleting the save file. That fixes it almost a 100% of the times. But since it's on a PS2 your best bet is to reload the save you are using until it shows up or load a previous save if you have made one. Can take between 2 and a lot more tries but it's reported that at some point it fixes itself. Maybe another thing to try is if you have two memory cards, copy the save to the spare one, delete it from the main and start the game fresh, play until the first save and save the game. Afterwards exit and move your previous save to the main memory card. That should be able to resolve it along with the reloading until showed method.
