The zalamander uses an attack called fire breath if you use the heart of flame garmet grid you got in mushrum rock road in the first chapter the attack will heal you instead of hearting you. Now on too beating him he has 12,850 life and invulnerable to all black mage attacks so focus on phisycal attacks from your heavy hitters such as the warrier,gunner,berserker,samurai. If you want you should also have a white mage because even without being able to damege you with his fire breath his phisical attacks still do decent damege to your party. If you do these things you should have a good chance of beating it.
