When you go to evolution z, you can give characters those items. They go from 1 to 19 and are in 8 different categories. They are speed, blast 1, blast 2, ki, health, ultimate blast, attack, and defense. I'm not sure what Ki does, but speed makes your hits hit faster, and blast 1 powers up the moves that use blast stock. They also make them last longer.

The Z item for KI, when equipped and depending on how high the number, raises the amount of KI your character will start the battle with. The SPEED item will make your character move faster in all aspects...flight, fight, and up/down movements. The BLAST 1 I am not sure of exactly myself...but I would guess, based on all the other DBZ games that I have, it would allow for a greater power in techniques such as "explosive wave" and longer lasting results from those like "pump up." That is just a guess on the BLAST 1 though.
