When you start a new game it says gold or yellow. Whats the difference?

I believe that Gold means that if you die, it will bring you back as many times as you die. Yellow on the other hand, means that you will get revived, only if you have a Yellow Orb on hand. I could have gotten them switched around though, go check around for a second source.
THE GOLD WILL BRING YOU BACK TO LIFE FROM WHERE YOU JUST DIED THE YELLOW BRINGS U BACK TO THE BEGGINING
I was curious about this too.. But the other comments are correct. Gold will let you respawn relatively close(usually a door before the place you died), and yellow makes you restart the level unless you have a ressurection orb.
Essentially, the yellow mode starts you from the beginning, so it's harder than the gold mode, which starts you at a certain checkpoint.
