You can unlock the Vaness extra stage in two ways:

1) In normal mode, play through 3 random songs with increasing difficulty and get at least AA

Or

2) In normal mode, play through 3 random songs get get at least AA in the first two and AAA in the third

Depending on what level of difficulty you selected will depend on what level you can play vanessa on. To work it out you need to add up the difficulty level you played the three random songs on and if the total is 10 or more you can play Vanessa on hard, 20 or more then you can play Vaness on Hyper and 30 or more you can play Vanessa on Another.
