Liquid/Solid Snake hand to hand combat fight

Below is a summery of what I have learned about the Liquid/Solid Snake fight set on the games HARD difficulty level so if this changes on the EXTREME level I cannot confirm.

This is also a very long guide but I don't think I can be less concise due to the amount the fight can change as you wear Liquid down.

When you first attack Liquid you can do a full "Punch Punch Kick" combo by pressing the circle button 3 times but after that you can only hit Liquid once for the next 2 attempts as he begins to flash which stops you from hitting him.

I have summarised from this that after the 2 single punches (if they hit Liquid or not as it is possible to miss) it will then loop you back to the 3 hit combo every time for the entire fight.

Liquid also has 3 stages to his fight with you as his energy depletes and each section will be explained below.

The 1st stage will consist of him standing in two of 4 places where you can hit him but he will then stand closer to a corner on Rex's head and when you approach him he will crouch into a fighting stance.

The best action when this happens is to run close to him and run away again as he will do a round house kick from this stance but as soon as he has done that you can then run back and attack him straight after.

Liquids 2nd stage attacks will consist of him taking a permanent fighting stance and when you run close to him he will mostly do a 2 punch attack or a round house kick but if he has some distance between you he will sometimes attempt a charge type attack to try and knock you over or off the top of Rex.

The best action I have found for this part is to quickly run up to him and deliver the same attack method of a single punch or the 3 hit combo depending on what your last attack was and then quickly move a safe distance away before he can attack you.

If Liquid attempts to charge you he will make a charging grunt and run into you but by this time he is fixed on the position your standing in so if you time it right you can move out the way and loop around the back of him to get another chance to attack him from behind.

Liquids 3rd and final stage attack basically stays the same but his 2 punch strategy now has a kick added to the end so you will have to stay away a little longer before you return to attack him.

When you get to this stage I would recommend reducing your 3 hit combo to only 2 hits as when you do the 3rd hit he will either fall to the floor or fall off the side of Rex which will then take him longer to get back up and will waste valuable time to finish the fight but apart from that you must still stick to the same attack loop of two single hits followed by the new 2 punch only combo.

To finish Liquid off your best chance is to get his health bar to the point where it is almost depleted and then wait for him to charge at you near an edge he can fall off.

At this point you can then do the trick where you loop around behind him and use the "punch punch kick" combo attack this will make him fall to his supposed death and end the fight.

With this method I have been able to defeat Liquid in about 2 minutes and 15 seconds but also be aware that if you fall over the side and get back up it seems to sometimes reset the loop strategy and you may find your 3 hit combo will only accomplish 1 hit so if you have a lot of energy left try the 3 hit combo again and if you don't accomplish it in the second try then it should be back to normal by the third attempt..
