First of all, when you get out of the mining

Area of tutorial island, go get your stuff

And put your attack style to aggresisve mode and kill Giant Rats.

Keep fighting Giant Rats until your strength level 3. Then use

Accurate mode until your attack level 3. Now put it in

Defensive mode until it's level 3.
