how do I buy land

Open your Park window by clicking the park gate icon (or pressing P). There are two buttons on the right side of the window, both look like a small white sign on a grid square.
The first button is Buy Land - click it and some squares outside your park boundaries will be highlighted and have signs in the middle of them. Click any square for sale to buy it. Not all parks have land for sale.
The second button is Buy Building Rights - some areas can be purchased and built over/under but not modified (often over a non-editable land feature, like a highway). Only a few parks have building rights areas for sale.
