Question for Half-Life

I keep trying to add cheats to half life, but when I try to add either -console or -dev...or whatever and try to apply it...it wont let me, it says that the path name and file extention must be the same?

Did you have steam version of HL?If you did,goto options>control>active it.

2.Make shortcut for Half life,goto the target box, put this "-console -dev 3" (without quotes).This should work on WON version too.
