How to Defeat Enemies

Early in Carrion you will mostly encounter scared scientists and engineers who are defenceless against you and you will have no problem killing them. Eventually you will face soldiers who will carry weapons and have defenses against your tentacles which will make them more difficult to kill. Soldiers with flamethrowers can potentially take you down in seconds if you do not find water and you will not be able to grab soldiers that have electric shields head-on. The humans that are protected by mini-gun wielding mech suits and the drones you face will require stealthy tactics to beat. The key to being succesful is learning how to use the different abilities of the parasite and use them to pick off enemies one at at time.

Backtrack with New Abilities

If you are struggling to progress you may need to backtrack as there are places that you explored early in the game which when you return to later with the new abilites you have unlocked you will be able to access aspects that were unavailable to you before. Listed below are most of the abilities along with where you can find them.

Echolocation
The parasite has this at the start of the game.

Arachnoptysis DNA
Found at the military junkyard.

Photokinesis DNA
Found at the Botanical Garden.

Xiphorrhea DNA
Found in the Uranium Mines.

Acanthosis DNA
Found at the Leviathan Reef Base Bridge.

Harpagorrhea DNA
Found at the Nuclear Power Plant.

Keratosis DNA
Found at the Armored Warfare facility.

Hydrophilia DNA
Found at the Leviathan Reef Base.

Parasitism
Found at the Relith Science HQ.

How to Unlock New Abilities

As you stalk the carverns of the facility in search of humans to feast on you will occassionally come across bio-hazard containers that unlock special ablities for the parasite. In order to activate a new ability you simbly have to grab the container with your tentacles and rapidly shake it back and forth. Each ability adds mass to the parasite and changes it's active ability. Collecting these abilities is important as you will need them to progress in the game.

How to Save your Game

Whenever you see a cluster of little blue cracks on the wall as you stalk the facility looking for humans to kill make sure you make your way over to them and activate them so you leave a portion of your biomass there. Once you have managed to activate enough of these, the seal to the next area will be broken and you will be able to crawl through.

These broken seals will also serve as save points which enable you to retain the progress of the game anytime you go up to one. The next time you die, or continue from the main menu it will be at this save point that you will reappear. Although the game only uses one save slot you can always manually choose to save your last checkpoint from an earlier checkpoint in a different slot at the main menu.

In-Game Map

One of the first things you will discover when you begin playing Carrion is that there is no in-game map and the formless biological horror that you play doesn't have a great sense of direction, this means you can easily get lost in the game's many caverns. If you are sick and tired of seeing the same places over and over again you may want to take a look at the video below which is a clearly labeled map that will point you in the right direction if you are confused as to which direction you should be going.

Size Matters

As the red mass of tentacles and teeth that is held captive in the huge research facility owned by a company called Relith Science your objective when you break out of your containment jar is to eat as many human body parts as possible in order to gain biomass which will directly impact which abilities you can use.

As the parasite you will also be able to deposit biomass into red pools around the levels which you can then use as a guide to navigate around the game. How you increase and decrease your size as you hunt for humans is the dilema you are faced with, do you have more health and destructive attacks or be able to move faster and use more defensive abilities, the choice is yours.
