Search Everywhere

Make sure as you progress through the game you take the time to search your surroundings thoroughly and collect everything you find, this means digging up every pile of garbage, checking behind every door, and opening every cabinet. It is essential that you do this as you will often be rewarded with crafting components or gear that is better than your current loadout. Keep an eye out in particular for small, green bags as these contain consumables that restore your health which is crucial as the game only gives you a limited supply, and you will need to replace them.

Craft Gear Early

Although you can always find gear from looting and fallen enemies, the best weapons and armor in the early game in Biomutant are obtained by crafting and upgrading it. This process involves collecting melee and ranged components, saving up resources such as Polym and putting everything together on the 'Crafting' screen.

Armor
It is essential that you have decent armor as it provides physical resistance and defenses against attacks. It does not however give you any bonus resistance from hazardous damage. There are seven places on your character that you can equip armor to:

- Head
- Face
- Torso
- Right shoulder
- Left shoulder
- Back
- Legs

Add-ons for armor can be done on the fly, but to upgrade it will require finding an Upgrade Bench. These are scattered across the map. To find an Upgrade Bench you simply have to look around for the giant air balloons as all Upgrade Benches are found on these balloons. You will not have any difficulty finding an air balloon as they can be seen from miles around.

Weapons
There are two types of weapons in Biomutant, these are:

- Regular Weapons
- Unique Weapons

Regular weapons come with at least one add-on slot which enables you to equip mods into and like armor they can be upgraded using an Upgrade Bench, you will also be able to swap add-ons on the go. Unique weapons cannot be improved using an Upgrade Bench nor can they be embedded with add-ons like regular weapons.

In order to craft weapons you must first find the pieces, these pieces will determine the stats of the weapon and how effective it will be during combat. Whether the weapon you craft is melee or ranged is based on the pieces you use. Melee weapons require at least one handle and one base-type component, and ranged weapons must combine one base type with a grip and muzzle. You can swap out pieces of a weapon anytime and combine them with something better if required.

Take a look at the video below to find out how you can craft the best armor and weapons in Biomutant.

Complete Side Quests

Progression in Biomutant is by completing the main campaign missions and side quests and these are found by progressing through the story and talking to NPCs, and interacting with the game world. Although side quests will take you off the beaten path you should consider tackling them as they can grant you some exclusive items, and it is also a great way to level up.

Side quests will usually involve helping out NPCs and being rewarded with weapons, armor and other valuables for your efforts. When you consider that the difficulty in Biomutant can ramp up fast, the rewards and XP you receive from the side quests will help with your progression.

Find a Mount

Biomutant is an open-world game that has vast distances you need to traverse. It is therefore essential that you save time and effort and obtain a Mount as soon as possible in order to travel across the map. The game offers dozens of mounts to choose from, all of which travel differently. In order to tame the desired mount you need to obtain it's preferred food and feed it to strengthen the bond between it and your character. Another way to obtain a Mount is to `purchase them from various Vendors across the world in outposts that belong to your tribe or the one that you have conquered. Take a look at the video below to see all the different types of mounts in the game, these include rideable mounts, flying mounts, and mechanical mounts.

Creating a Character

Creating a Character in Biomutant

The first thing you will need to do in Biomutant is pick a class and create a character. Do not become overly concerned about creating the perfect character straight away as you are not locked out of anything based on your choices, you will be able to alter your character and your stats as well as use the same weapons and abilities during your playthrough. What is important is the class you pick, there are five different classes available and each comes with a unique set of perks that cater for a specific playstyle, so it is important that you choose the one that is best suited for you. Listed below are the classes and the perks each can unlock using the Upgrade Points gained from levelling up.

Try Out Different Weapons

In Biomutant you will come across lots of different types of weapons which you can use, these will include One-Handed Swords, Dual Wield Guns, and Automatic Rifles. Even though lots of these weapons will appear almost the same it is recommended that you still take the time to try each of them out as each weapon has it's own set of quirks, and you may come across one that perfectly suits your playstyle. If this is the case remember that you can always upgrade it at an Upgrade Workbench or equip it with some mods in the 'Crafting' menu to make it more powerful if it feels under powered.
