How to get Abilities in Ori and the Will of the Wisps

It is essential in Ori and the Will of the Wisps that you obtain the various abilities on offer in order to help Ori's progression in the game. There are 18 total abilities and they range from those that are combat based and need to have a weapon equipped to others that bestow Ori with valuable pysichal skills. Check out our How to get Abilities guide to find what they are and where to get them.

There are 18 abilities in total in Ori and the Will of the Wisps and once you have obtained them you will be able to assign them to one of the three slots in the middle of the hud. This is done by holding down LT on your controller and selecting the ability from the wheel. You will have to switch abilities during the course of the game as some puzzles will require you to use a specific ability to solve them. If have collected plenty of Spirit Light orbs you will be able to buy certain Abilities Sold by Opher.

Inkwater Marsh

Glide

This ability is in the prologue in Swallows Nest and is part of the story. To obtain it you need to grab the vine to open the door to the tree-like house, then climb to the top and search the chest for the feather. Although you lose this power early in the game you will gain it again as part of the story later.

Spirit Edge

This ability enables you to attack at close range with a blade of light. Continue pressing 'Attack' to chain combos. This ability is gained naturally through story progression. After you defeat the Howler and enter the Howlers Nest, drop to the bottom and travel to the right to find a large tree. Interact with the glowing orb inside.

Double Jump

Press A to jump, then A again to go even higher. This is an important ability that is gained through natural story progression after about 30-45 minutes of gameplay. You learn it at Inkwater Marsh.

Spirit Arc

Fire an arrow of light. This gives you a ranged ability. It is found in Inkwater Marsh after you drain the poisonous water.

Ancestral Light

When you obtain this ability all attacks will now deal 25% more damage. You will be unable to get this ability until you are further into the story and heading to The Burrows. There you will find a flower music puzzle which if you play the solution backwards will open the door that’s blocking the spirit tree. You can get this buffed to 25% by planting all of the mysterious seeds.

Kwolok's Hollow

Dash

Press RB to dash ahead. Can be used mid-air.

Bash

Hold LB near lanterns, projectiles or enemies, then aim to leap. Projectiles will be redirected (sent in the opposite direction to where you aim). You will get this ability shortly after your fight with the Horn Beetle.

The Wellspring

Grapple

Press LB near hooks or blue moss to pull yourself towards them. This is actually inside The Wellspring itself, not Wellspring Glade.

Baur's Reach

Light Burst

Lob an explosive sphere that's great for melting friozen things. This can be used with your Bash ability.

Luma Pools

Swim Dash

Press RB underwater to Dash ahead, or near the surface to launch in the air.

Windswept Wastes

Burrow

Press RB to move through sand, then press RB again to Burrow Dash.

Mouldwood Depths

Flash

Create an aura of light that damages enemies and drains energy. It can be used to explore Mouldwood Depths.
